Trainer's room always open here

Hello all. Jim Baumbach here making a rare appearance on the Mets blog. Covering the game tonight as Dave enjoys a well deserved night off.

Here's the latest on the injuries...

-- The MRI on Carlos Beltran's right knee showed only a bruise, which was good news for the Mets. But as I'm sure you guys are well aware, Beltran isn't the quickest healer. My guess is he's out at least through this weekend. “Right now, the way I feel, I feel better than yesterday, for sure. But my legs are still weak. I just want to take the field when I feel I can play the game the way I want to play the game. Maybe not 100 percent, because that’s impossible, but at least 80, 85 percent.”

-- Add David Wright to the list of injured Mets. He woke up with pain in his back, and he couldn't pinpoint how it happened. He was certain he was going to play, but manager Willie Randolph and the trainers convinced him to take a day off. "I love to be out there on the field and play," Wright said. "I want to play. That’s always what I want to do. They kind of talked some sense into me, Willie and the trainers."

-- And in case you're wondering, Randy Johnson did not make the trip. Manager Bob Melvin said the reason was because Randy's back was stiff after his last start and they felt it made sense for him to do his work at home. Of course the fact that these three games are in New York had nothing to do with it... (Johnson's next start is Tuesday, which means he won't be starting against the Yankees in the Bronx in two weeks. What do you think the odds of Randy actually making that trip are?)

See ya.

Does it bother you that Beltran says its impossible for him to be 100 percent? He hasn't homered in like 25 games. Is it me or have the ets really not hit all that well all all year? I hope everyone gets healthy very soon and this team could start hitting to their potential.

-So I guess after tonight,
the Guillermo Mota Love Association has finally closed it's doors?
-I thought Kieth Hernandez was supposed to bat third?
-Is it true that Willie Randolph used a "hat" to select the batting order tonight?
-Is John Maine now resorting to cheap bribes in an effort to get some run support? I wonder what the going rate for contact is?
-Can the Braves possibly be more pathetic ?
-If Alex Rodriguez leaves the Yankees, what in the heck would "Jim Baumbach" have to write about?
-I wonder if Bobby Valentine called Armando Benitez on Tuesday night after the game, because I love how (all of a sudden) Benitez gets a knee injury and can't PLAY until he is traded to the Marlins. Hmmmmm.

Brandon, last I checked the Mets lead the league with a .281 batting average.
Beltran was also the leading vote getter in the National League.
I think sometimes it comes so easy and in intense moments, that you hardly realize that other than Delgado (who recently hit 4 homers over two games) the Mets bats have been very steady and productive and deep.

Beltran is one of the biggest wimps (this is coming from a Mets fan). 97 million and this guy has no guts.

every team in the league would take Beltran. please stop with the nonsense.

bring back Burgos!

Go Mets!

Brian - I agree about Beltran - he's always whining and crying about some minor injury. Suck it up and go play! He doesn't get paid mega bucks to sit on his rump in the dugout.

whining and crying?
Name me a centerfielder who has done what he has done.
The list is short if not singular.
Carlos Beltran is a mench
and petty jeolousy is just what that is.
Andruw Jones? He doesn't even cover the ground Beltran does. Andruw's putouts have declined at an alarming rate the last 6 years. Wake up and appreciate what you have.
A first ballot hall of famer. A few threads ago some morons were defending "Paul Molitor" as a hall selection. Ha. That is funny when you consider he did cocaine and was part of the MLB drug scandal in the 80's. He also opted out of any game possible that wasn't convenient for him.
Well which is it? Beltran is a wimp or Molitor was a real serious "big time" belly aching wimp.
Some of you don't know magic unless it comes out of a tall hat with a rabbit.
