Sweep dreams

broom.jpgGot to give the Mets credit for keeping a straight face when asked yesterday about going for the sweep of the Yankees. That had to be difficult, especially after watching the hapless Bombers stumble all over Shea in a game that should not have been as close as the 10-7 score.

At least manager Willie Randolph talked tough -- even if it was to the graduating class at Fordham. Newsday's Shawn Powell was at Rose Hill to document Randolph's day at the podium, and after Randolph asked, "Where's my Mets fans at?" he was greeted with a volley of enthusiastic screams.

"Good," Randolph said. "We're taking over this town."

That was it from the Mets as far as trash talking yesterday, but Tom Glavine's postgame assessment of the Yankees bordered on pity. Can you believe it? The Mets are not only 2-0 against the Yankees this weekend, they're starting to feel sorry for them.

"Obviously they're struggling," Glavine said. "They're not playing the way they expect to, or the way anyone in baseball expects them to. I still think they're a good team. At the end of the year, they're going to be a competitive team, a playoff team."

Competitive, maybe. Playoffs? Only if they buy tickets for Shea this October.

Well... called the two out of three, and TOTALLY called that punk shutting us down last night. It really doesn't matter who wears the Mets uniform, what year it is, what team he plays for, anything... The receipe is simple, send a kid out making his major-league debut, and you beat the Mets 75% of the time.
However, silver lining, still took 2 of 3, and added a game to our lead when the braves got beat down in Boston. Now, on to Atlanta to avenge some of those blown games earlier this year, and really shut them up. LETS GO METS!!!

You are so right Ted. I think the same about Mets vs rookies or any pitcher that they're seeing for the 1st time. They are completely useless unless they get a full scouting report. Jose Reyes looked like he forget how to hit last night and Carlos Delgado needs to sit himself down until he remembers how to hit as well.

The one thing I will say about this guy, he did hit his spots, and threw the ball relatively well, working his breaking ball and changeup in on any count. I'll be willing to wager that he could be a serviceable pitcher for some organization after the Yankmes package him in a trade for some 38-year old guy.

As I posted that, I had to chuckle at myself for dragging out the "Yankmes are old" line, especially in light of half our team these days.
But our old guys can still play :D

Met fans will soon learn that winning it all, is all that matters. We've been here before. The Mets proclaimed themselves Kings of NY last year as they ran away with the NL East. Then could only win one round of the playoffs. For all the rah-rah by Met Fans now, lets see if they have what it takes for the long hall. their best chance was last year when the Braves and Phillies had down years and they faded as they always have under pressure to win. It's harder to win when you are supposed to and the Mets won't sneak up on anyone this year. we'll see. BTW someone tell Reyes that the SS dropping the ball to create a DP stuff doesn't even work in Little League.

I don't know who you may support tough guy, but I'd venture to say that 14 division titles with only one World Series Championship to show for it is "fading under the pressure."

HEY VENOM, YOU GONNA TELL JOSE REYES HOW TO PLAY BASEBALL???
YOU ARE AN ABSOLUTE CLOWN.
HE WILL BE THE MVP THIS YEAR.
FORGET ABOUT JJ SMARDY.
HE NEVER PLAYS A FULL SEASON
BECAUSE HE STINKS.
NEXT THING YOU KNOW, SOME OF THE CLOWNS OR YANKEE FANS COMING ABOARD, WILL BE TELLING JOSE REYES HOW TO STYLE HIS HAIR, RIGHT?
"Hey someone needs to TELL Jose Reyes that those multi color braids only work for you in little league"
VENOM YOU ARE AN IMBECILE.

venom can "tell" Jose Reyes how to hold the mvp trophy.

Ambiorix Burgos.
You fake and phony American League reject.
You are Armando Benitez revisited.
We hate you almost as much.
To make matters worse,
Brian Bannister is back.
Yesterday:
5 innings pitched
5 hits
3 earned runs
1 walk
5 strikeouts
He might be a better pro than the "failed" experiment Pelfry.
Certainly better than Burgos.

Toxic Twins part II:

Omar Minaya is a genius.
And so are the Orioles.
They got their "BARRY ZITO" for 120 million dollars less! HA!

The Mets officially have a problem at first base.
Another game passes, and the front office ponders making a move.
I understand that Richie Sexson has recently been taking a seat in favor of Broussard in Seattle. Maybe they might consider a deal?

To say Delgado is a problem,
I dunno. To say he is a problem batting cleanup, probably. He should move down. He is batting .215 with 26 rbi.
Let's face it, with Jose Reyes and Beltran batting in front of you, even the weak hitting David Lennon would have had 40 RBI by now. And he swings like my mom.

C'mon folks...David Lennon doesn't
swing a bat like your mom.
Now your sister.....

Damn ts, I am glad you are not our GM! First, there's a reason why Sexson has been taking a seat - it's because he is dead last in the major leagues in batting average! To say that the answer to a guy batting .218 is to replace him with a guy hitting .172, makes me wonder if I understand the question. That's like trading a pitcher because his wife was too hot. That's like trading a #1 starter for a head case that your pitching coach could "fix" in five minutes. That's like... eh, you get the point.
It's not even like we'd get much younger, with Sexson at 32, and Delgado 34. The only advantage to Sexson over Delgado is that since he would strike out about 30 times more than Carlos, he'd hit into less double plays.

Damn Ted, I just about spit my cornflakes on my computer. Funny stuff. I do have to point out though, while it may *seem* like Delgado is bouncing into a double-play every time you blink, Sexson is even worse in that category too!
In their last five full seasons, Sexson has hit into 20, 17, 18, 14 & 17 DPs, compared to 8, 9, 11, 16 & 12 for Carlos.
In any event, I'm more in agreement with the guy-too-unimaginative-to-make-up-a-name, and say he may need to be juggled in the order a little bit until he settles down. I'm sure he's still having some trouble with the wrist, and will come around. I'm betting that by July he'll be back up into the .280's and driving the ball, and this conversation will seem stupid.
Not as stupid as replacing him with Richie Sexson, but pretty stupid.

I'm confused by the guy who gives us regular updates on Trachsel and Zito... Is Omar a genius for not getting Zito? or is he being sarcastic calling him a genius for getting rid of Trachsel? I don't get it.

I'm not sure... But if we expand the group a little bit, and say that either/both Maine and Perez took the spots of either/both Traschel and Zito, I still think Omar IS a genius:

Any way you stack them up, I still like our guys better!

San Francisco Giants, Toronto Blue Jays, Kansas City Royals, and the
Seattle Mariners: Not found

Theodore, I am not a GM. If I was the Met decision maker I would do this. Put Green at first until Delgado shows signs of hitting above .220. This would give playing time to my favorite Mets:
Endy Chavez
Carlos Gomez
In my opinion Shawn Green is deteriotating rapidly as a defender. I would never trade for Sexson because he has stated that "He wants to be on the west coast". I believe his family is in Washington or Oregon. If I had to pick a replacement for Delgado, it would be a longterm solution. A strictly money deal. Texeira as a free agent at the end of 2007. For now, I only need to have Omar scare Delgado a little with some pine time. I only threw the Sexson comment out there as a lark.

Rocko, you are pretty stupid.
We have seen you posts.

The idea of the Trachsel - Zito post is this. Irony.
Trachsel is a pitcher that desperately wanted to be on the Mets, the Met fans are familiar with him, he was not really wanted by anyone, he went to the Orioles probably as a family favor done for him by Duquette.
Zito on the other hand was wanted by everyone but yet he walks away from a dinner with the mets saying "What a bunch of suckers, they helped me jack up my price AND I got a free dinner and I saw --CATS-- for free too"
Well now old fates are making themselves known. Other than his last outing in Oakland where he clocked out at 88, Zito has been throwing 83 all year long. He has been stinky. He is a target who is being ridiculed by the fans in San Francisco. 10 starts in and the love affair is over.
Trachsel will out perform Zito, and honestly, I am so glad. Trachsel will never get a 126 million dollar contract. But at least for one season, he may end up being the BEST pitcher on his staff. Unlike Zito, who is at this moment---the fourth starter behind Cain, Morris, Lowry. Lincecum may surpass him by seasons end too. He is a 126 million dollar headache Omar does not need.

Rocko the last time Delgado batted .280 might have been last April.

Rocko... that was April of 2006.

Anonymous, the integrity of your search is in question. Perhaps the medium you are using is not the best one.
To say that San Francisco does not register in your search ought to clue you in. But yet, the Nationals register in your search?
Dude people from friggin "Germany" come to the bay area just to see that stadium in San Francisco and a few trolleys going "ding ding".
They charge 30 dollars for parking.
They charge 9 dollar beers.
20 Dollars for outfield binocular use only seats.
But yet, they pack the house. Despite the mediocrity of performance.
The Nationals attendance has fallen by 1/3 since there debut. And it is only going to continue downward until the new stadium is finally completed. It is a joke in Washington. So I am sure their inclusion and the Giants excusion would make your results seem like folly.
