Zog's Blog 2: No Walk in the Park

Don't expect Chan Ho Park to stick around after last night's outing.

He looked very good early, dominant even, striking out three of the first eight batters he faced before pitcher Scott Olsen hit a soft single to center. But then Park lost it, some of it his own doing and some of it a case of bad baseball karma.

After Olsen's single, Park walked the next two batters, each on four pitches. Miguel Cabrera followed with a two-run single off Damion Easley's glove. It was correctly ruled a hit but could just have easily been caught on the backhand side.

More misfortune followed for Park. Mike Jacobs blooped a run-scoring double just out of Jose Reyes' reach and Josh Willingham dumped a two-run single into right-center that was well-placed though not well-struck.

That wasn't the case in the fourth however, as Alfredo Amezaga and Hanley Ramirez hit solo home runs that gave the Marlins a 7-0 lead.

Just guessing here, but don't be surprised if Jorge Sosa is called up to take Park's place for the rest of the starts that would've gone to Orlando Hernandez. Sosa has been lights-out for Triple-A New Orleans.

Ambiorix Burgos will save the day!!!!
Hooraaay!
Now we will lose by double digits,
instead of single digits!
Yipeeee!

What were they thinking in the first place bring Park up? He couldn't hack it in AAA and they wanted him to come up and do something?!? They should have brought up Sosa in the first place! Good move guys, next time you are desperate enough to bring up Park, give me a call, I can't do much worse!

Park, Burgos...they have value.
They do, look at the Jorge Julio deal last year.
They do have value, but not to me as a met fan! If we were a crappy team experimenting in a rebuilding year, I would say, what the hell. But this is a ring year, a year you must dominate. Next year, Glavine, El Duque, Schoeneweis, Delgado, Green, Franco and Billy Wagner might look a lot older. Enough.

Another observation about this team is David Wright has been atrocious in this early season so far. 0-5 yesterday, he is leaving people all over the bases and has 6 RBI's through 20+ games. He needs to pick his game up quickly.

Park was seen dyeing his hair blond after the game for good luck

Looks like it's going to be Glavine, Perez, Maine and pray for rain. Park seems to have some of the focus problems that Oliver Perez has. Can we have a look at Sosa?

We will see Sosa, but he was not available for last night's game. He had pitched the night before. Park was the right, only option.

"Met fan banned from Shea Stadium for three years for shining high powered flashlight at Braves during game"
Brilliant....and just to think that I always had a fantasy of taking a wiz in the gatorade bucket. But this is brilliant. He got jail time too.

Sosa has earned a shot, he can be electric at times, control has been his achilles heal. He can be a better option than pulling Joe Smith from the bullpen to start or us suffering from watching Park again.
He really should retire, or go to the bullpen somewhere.

Welp...I guess it's official.
Adios Mike Pelfry.
So, Omar Minaya, stop with the shenanigans and "Bring up VARGAS now". Enough

Mets lose another....they should have won. Time to wake up boys. Leave David Wright at 2 but Mets need another bat soon.

Gomez, .289 and sinking like a stone.
10 steals.
Omar Minaya,
Deal or no deal?

Looks like Delgado took baserunning lessons from Giambi in the off-season.

Right there, top of the 3rd inning, is the biggest difference in Perez 05-06 and Perez 07. Wright air-mails the routine throw that should have ended the inning. Then Perez tries to throw 4 pitches at 117MPH, nowhere near the plate, it's a 4-pitch walk. But the current Perez then comes back with a textbook piece of pitching, and a 4-pitch strikeout to end the inning. Nice.
Also, interesting graphic up on SNY after the walk - 33 strikeouts in a row without a walk, which was the longest stretch of his career.

David Wright will be batting second probably for the rest of the year, as I suspected---with no contract, LoDuca is going to have a flat year, he is not inspired and probably has a big chip on his shoulder named "OMAR Jr."

Get ready for the Mets to be facing punitive damages with MLB. Florida Marlins will be filing tampering charges against the Mets for illegal conversations by Omar Minaya with Miguel Cabrera.

Hey isn't it strange that Omar's illegal contact with Miguel Cabrera is first reported and confirmed in a Miami newspaper, and then on CNN, but I don't see it in Newsday, maybe I missed it.

The tampering may be modest and probably silly, but couldn't Omar have just instead sent Miguel Cabrera a basket of fruit with a picture of Mr. Met mixed in with the mangos? He would have gotten the message papi.

From the second inning of his last start, Perez has been brilliant. What an arm

Beltran: 24 rbi

JOSE REYES PREDICTED NUMBERS:2007
Runs: 150
Hits: 230
Home Runs: 12
RBI: 110
Stolen Bases: 100
Wow.

Endy Chavez, he rocks

Tampering, boy what a crock. The pathetic yankees should be so lucky to have such stupid problems as that.
The "George Steinbrenner Bloodthirst" has begun...TODAY THEY FIRED THE STRENGTH COACH!
HA HA HA HA hah ha ha ha ha !!!!who's next? THE BATBOY??
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA !!

Today in related news, seven hot dog vendors at Yankee Stadium were given their pink slips. The reasons given were that the temperature of their tasty meats did not live up to George Steingrabber's "weenie" standards. Those unemployed hot dog hacks plan to file a grievance with the Union of Unidentified Meat People.
Our prayers go with them...

Delgado needs a bat behind him, he is an integral part of the Met's attack. Without his thump, the Met's will continue to bat .249 with RISP. That is no acceptable unless you have Seaver, Carlton, The big D, and Sandy Kaufax.
Player of the Month, Jose Reyes. Pitcher of the Month, John Maine. So I guess Anna Benson won't be guest blogging on this Met site?? Nah,......

All of you losers which you had a girl as hot as mine. Suckers.

Can't argue with you there, Kris :)

Yanno... I was stuck at work yesterday, and only able to keep track of the game through gamecast on ESPN. So I'm all ticked at Wright for not coming through AGAIN in the first, with two on and two out, and a chance to tie the score.
ESPN posted the at bat like this:
D Wright grounded out to pitcher.
So, I'm annoyed for a while, and yeah he gets two hits, makes a couple of errors. But I'm watching the condensed game on MLB.TV last night, and that's when I find out that "D Wright grounded out to pitcher" really means "D Wright hits line drive off pitchers leg, takes lucky bounce right to first baseman."
So, I'm not too ticked any more. But maybe he should take some infield practice :D

Read the following earlier today:

***The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports Florida Marlins management is not happy with a prolonged 10-minute on-field conversation between Marlins 3B Miguel Cabrera and New York Mets general manager Omar Minaya. Major-league rules prohibit conversations like this, as they are considered tampering if a player is approaching free agency.***

What happened?
When was the conversation?
Anybody got anything?
If he came to the Mets what position would he play?...lol

Mookie, I have been searching for info from New York papers, maybe I am missing it. This blog isn't updated frequently but I still have not seen anything from Newsday. I am hoping that one of the beat writers was actually there. It can't possibly be that they are unable to comment pending an interview with MLB. Because, if this was the case, I am sure they would acknowledge the situation as witnesses and state as much.

Beltran is among the league leaders in runs batted in, I believe he is in the top five.

"Pssst....mida Miguel. Tu quere Los Metillos de Nueva York?" "Los Metillos de Nueve York queres Miguel."

"Hi miguel, ever see times square?"
--wisper-------
"How about 180 million "

"Hey Miguel, how would you like to be the manager?"
--Omar Minaya

"Don't worry Miggy, we're fitting David Wright for a first-baseman's mit. Either that or he's our new 8th inning set-up man."

Hola Miquel, yo quiero taco bell.
