El Duque hurting

duke.jpgJust as the Mets were waiting around for the MRI results on Jose Valentin's right knee, Orlando Hernandez showed up this morning complaining of tightness in his right shoulder. So El Duque stayed in his streetclothes and headed back to New York around noon to be examined by the team physician. As of now, Hernandez still is scheduled to start tomorrow night against the Marlins, but his status is very much in doubt.

"He said he felt something in his shoulder area," general manager Omar Minaya said. "We'll see what the doctors say."

It's unclear what the Mets fallback option would be if Hernandez is scratched. Aaron Sele pitched 1 1/3 innings in Saturday's 12-inning win over the Nationals, so it's possible he could come back. The Mets may be unwilling to move up Mike Pelfrey after his struggles -- he's slotted for Tuesday -- and Jorge Sosa is scheduled to start for Triple-A New Orleans this afternoon at Oklahoma, which means he could get word very soon about making a detour to Queens.

RISP with less than 2 outs..very disheartening way to start the season..but then again, when the meat of the order DOES start producing, watch out

According to the Met's site Park is on his way to the bigs. I guess they sorted the ERAs in Descending, rather than ascending order. Humber was pitcher of the week in the PCL, and Sosa has been on fire.
Why???

Park?!?!? The must assume they are going to be able to keep scoring 10 runs a game against the Marlins!!! Or maybe they are just hoping he can keep with his AAA ERA of 7.xx and get through 3 innings with 2 or 3 runs, bring in Sele for 3 or 4 innings and get to the bullpen! What are they thinking????

its Park's day to pitch so he makes the most sense for a spot start.

chalk up an L for the Mets

I think Park was the only pitcher on the right amount of rest, from what I've heard. He was scheduled to start today in New Orleans. It will be his only start, because he is going to suck

I'm hoping Park's start, and the players knowing they'll need seven runs to have a shot at winning, will jump start the sluggers.

Anybody else out there fed up with Newsday's daily five page coverage of the next to worst team in baseball as opposed to the one or one and a half pages devoted to the top of the heap Mets? Please let me hear from you!

Dear Noanie---

Yes! Yes! Yes! Let's have some objective and equal coverage here!!!

CHAN HO PARK: LIMA TIME PART II

All Met fans, take a knee,
and pray to whatever god you worship that Chan Ho Park misses his flight to LaGuardia and is forced to hop in the back of a mule train, thus missing his scheduled start for the Mets by three months, along the way he can phone in and let us know ---just how far away he still is........

Chan's Legacy:

Chan Ho Park, the money was great.

El duque = old fart

I really had enough of Chan Ho Park in spring training. I certainly do not think he is the long term solution.
It is hard to believe that Jason Vargas would be overlooked after his great spring and solid AAA numbers with the Zephyrs.
Is there anyone paying attention. He is seasoned in the bigs already. He has the stuff, and has shown goog control. Besides, Henry Owens is closing for the Marlins right now. I am ready to see the dividends from that trade. How about u Omar??

good control, good control.
Don't make a Lima mistake again Omar, that was really embarrasing.
