Do you fear anyone?

Rieber here, pinch hitting for Lennon this weekend.

So the Mets are 3-0, the Braves are 3-0 and the Phillies are 0-3. Interesting turn of events, don't you think? It leads me to a pair of questions for you to ponder as we get ready for Mets vs. Braves tonight.

1) Which team do you think will give the Mets the most trouble this season, Atlanta or Philly? I'm assuming you're all savvy enough to know you can't base anything on the first three games of the season.

2) Would you rather see the Mets blow the Braves away in the division again or beat them in a squeaker? Do you want to rub their noses in the Mets' superiority or break their hearts at the last minute?

Discuss...

And if you'd like a more interactive experience, allow me to direct you to "Ask Anthony" -- my Newsday.com mailbag. Go ahead, ask me anything, as long as it's about baseball -- please don't ask me about the Islanders' Ice Girls -- and I'll do my best to give you an answer with a new mailbag on Mondays.

(If you want to read about the Ice Girls, check out my colleague Jim Baumbach's new Web-only column.)

Back later with some more Mets stuff...

It is early...

I think Philly will be bigger threat in long run.

Blow them out and rub their faces in it.

Please don't mention Ice Girls!

Leave that pathetic stuff to Isles fans and the Yankees writer Jim.

1) The Braves will be a bigger threat, although I hope I'm wrong. They have a decent batting line-up and a stronger pitching staff than last year. The bullpen is much deeper for them. Not to mention, they have veterans who know how to win and have been winning most of their careers, unlike the Phillies.

2) I'd prefer to blow them away and rub their faces in it. I want to see them suffer along all season, not just suffer during the off-season from a heart-breaking loss. Let's see them suffer in the limelight during the season, along with thinking about the beating they took all winter long!!

I'm hoping the Phillies give us more of a hard time because that would mean Atlanta wasnt too good...or vice versa. I wouldnt count out either of these teams, nor would I count out the Marlins. This is going to be much more dramatic of a season than 2006.
Rubbing their face in it, just squeaking by...prefer the first, gladly accept the latter. I feel it will be a long long tough year for the NL East title.

PS- The Ice Girls Rule! Rangers suck!

1) I think Phils will be the bigger threat. Braves will wilt come the all-star break.
2) bury da bums

oh, and..

LETS GO ISLANDERS!!!!!!

I think the girls chasing David Wright will be a bigger threat.

We Met fans should form a human shield around our all-star third baseman, rub their faces in it and then send them over to Jeter's to distract him instead.

GO METS! BURY THE BRAVES!!
THEIR NEW BULLPEN IS OVER RATED AND WE CAN GET THEM.

The Braves, though I honestly have to say that I don't think that either of those teams is in the Mets' class. Barring injuries (a big if, I know) I think that the Mets' starting pitching is being seriously underrated. Maine showed a lot last year with limited experience, and his post season-spring progression, along with his size and obvious mental toughness, makes me believe he'll be a "plus" #3 this year and a fixture in the rotation. Perez' talent is obvious, and he seems to have made great strides, a potential "plus-plus" #4, and Pelfrey doesn't have to do too much to be a solid #5 in the NL.

Add to that the fact that the Mets are a better defensive team than either the Phils or the Braves (especially in the infield), with a deeper lineup as well, and I see a strong possibility of another walk this season.

With Reyes and Wright improving, Alou instead of the injured Floyd, and Milledge likely to replace Green, I think the gap has, if anything, widened, depsite the relative improvements made by the rest of the division.

Call me crazy, but let's see where we are at the all-star break.

Correct ajsmith,
Add to it that our offense will b silly this year with a healthy team as well.

Okay ... ajsmith, you're crazy.

1) I think the Phillies will give the Mets more trouble than the Braves. I'm hoping that *nobody* gives them much trouble, though.

2) I'd much rather see the Mets blow the Braves away. I'd like to see the Phillies blow the Braves away. I'd like to see the Nationals blow the Braves away ... I think you see where I'm going with this.

The Mets will casually jog away with the division. The Phillies already know they suck and the Braves will find out that they aren't all that great by the All-Star break. These Mets are a powerhouse. Don't forget Minaya has $ and Pedro and Duaner might be back for the playoffs. My true fear is that A-Rod "redeems" himself against us in Game 7.

It is my view that the Mets do have the talent to destroy both teams when they play them this year.
But it will have to be played out, before it is a fact.

Yet that will bring in a major problem if they do that.

It would be boring from mid August until the 1st of October. (Except if you was counting the amount of steals, triples, RBI’s, runs scored and homers that Reyes does).

But all of that would be worth while after they win their 11th game in October.

fredsaid: Ha! You are worried about the "boredom" of winning! That's like getting "so tired" of Paris, France after the first five times you've been there. But I understand it, sometimes you want more for breakfast than cheese and bread. And yes, sometimes you want more of a challenge than what the Phillies or the Braves gave last year. But are we asking to much to expect that from both those pathetic losers??
You can already count the Phillies out.

(remember my prediction: Manuel and Gillick are gone by the allstar break )

The Mets need fear no man (except perhaps Sean Avery)

I fear Anthony Rieber....

and also Ruby slippered Circus Clowns.

How can Mark Redman have an era of 5.71 last year and not be named Steve Trachsel. Has he been dating Alyssa Milano too? She drained the lifeforce out of Pavano and I think she is a baseball piranna.

David Wright is a Rangers fan

Ho humm.....mets turn another double play. How many is that for the season now?

I hope that the article in Newsday regarding the Reyes-Wright popularity contest is not trying to hint at race.
That would be just a Red Sox fan, Mr. David (Don't call me Yoko) Lennon trying to steal a little bit of New York met glory from the team when they are doing well. It isn't race, it isn't even about popularity. It might just be that one is single and the other (David Wright) is known as a bachelor. It isn't a contest, it's a team. If I am on the team I would gladly let David Wright take every bit of attention away, so that I could concentrate on my game.
Obviously, Jose Reyes has done that. If he wanted more endorsements----then he should get a more aggressive agent who can put him on Dancing With The Stars or something. I hope I never see a likeness of myself in wax, that is creepy. Stop trying to put down Jose Reyes, just like all the non-believers were doing the first half of 2006. He is a superstar, he is his own man. I never saw Ricky Henderson wanting to do an episode of "The Love Boat". But we adored Ricky all the same, and everyone still does.
