Today's visit by team physician David Altchek brought good news for the Mets. Pedro Martinez was given the "green light" to finally pick up a baseball and begin playing catch while Duaner Sanchez still has a chance of being ready by Opening Day after getting a thumbs-up from Altchek.
The Mets are hoping that Martinez, who is rehabbing from rotator cuff surgery, can stay on track for a mid-July return. Sanchez, coming off season-ending shoulder surgery, has been playing long toss and hopes to get on a mound soon.
"He's coming along fine," GM Omar Minaya said of Sanchez. "His progress is very good."
