The good news for Cliff Floyd is the diagnosis for his strained left Achilles tendon did not change following yesterday’s visit with team physician Struan Coleman. The bad news? Floyd’s condition isn’t likely to improve until he eventually has surgery this winter, and Endy Chavez replaced him in the starting lineup for tonight's Game 2 of the NLCS.
Floyd received ultrasound treatment today for the strained tendon, which the Mets described as “irritated” when he had to be removed from Thursday’s game in the second inning. Floyd appeared to be in serious pain trying to round first base on a foul pop down the leftfield line, and told manager Willie Randolph he felt something “grab” in the back of his ankle.
It’s unclear how Floyd will be used for the remainder of the NLCS, but Randolph insists he will not be limited to a pinch-hitting role. That could be wishful thinking, however, and the Mets spent yesterday afternoon defending the move to put him on the roster.
“We didn’t have a crystal ball,” Randolph said. “We felt like he could help us. It was a joint decision.”
GM Omar Minaya backed up that claim, saying, “Even if he’s a pinch hitter, he’s valuable to us. He’s not valuable to us if he’s not on the roster.”

WILLIE, WILLIE , WILLIE?
Wagner into a game that is tied?
What ,didn't you already try that during the season already?
Willie?
What are you doing my bra'?
Willie?
Billy Wagner is such an Overrated *****.
He constantly makes putting him in the ninth inning a roller coaster ride. Very Scary.
Agreed Frank,
Billy Wagner just plan Sucks. Putting him in the ninth inning is like riding a Roller Coaster. It can be Scary at times.
Billy Wagner is the most Over rated relief pitcher in the majors. Putting him in a game is like watching a Horror movie. Because Nothing good comes out of this. Now we more than likely, will be seeing Perez start a game for the Mets, which is an automatic loss.
Sorry, as a Mets fan the Cards are placed in six.
bye bye willie the dumb you have opened the flood gates back to st.louis for 3 in a row.dumb manager
Bob, you have to be the stupidest comment maker i've ever seen. You should actually watch the whole season, not just the playoffs, then you wouldn't be saying that. So Ignorant!!!! U make us Mets fans look bad.
Anonymous: Is Trevor Hoffman overated? He only pitches the ninth, he only pitches with a lead. Bruce Bochy tried to throw Hoffman into the mix at various times, but he was smart enough to learn from his mistakes and follow a set guideline. Wagner, at this time is useless in a non save role, period.
Willie must accept that.
Anonymous..... I take that back brother:
MAYBE BILLY WAGNER IS OVERATED !!!!
OR MAYBE JUST OVERPAYED?
MAYBE HE AND ARMANDO BENITEZ CAN BE ROOMATES....LETS GET IT TOGETHER BILLY WAGS !!!
NOW IS NOT THE TIME TO BE UNRELIABLE.
