Sort of surprising news before tonight's game at Coors Field when manager Willie Randolph suggested that Cliff Floyd may not have his job waiting for him when he returns from the disabled list. The Mets plan on having Flloyd play for Class A Brooklyn on Wednesday night if tropical storm Ernesto allows him to leave Florida, but Chavez could prevent him from returning to the lineup on an everyday basis.
"I'm not saying he's going to take Endy's job," Randolph said. "A lot depends on how Cliff looks and how he starts to play. But i'm not going to change from what I think is best for the team. When you get to to the postseason, you play the best guys, and that's what I'm going to do."
Smart move by Randolph? Or do you think Floyd deserves the benefit of the doubt?

Endy Chavez should start, he deserves to.
Endy Chavez is the best defensive outfielder (hands down)on the team, a great guy and a three hundred hitter. He deserves every chance his manager gives him including in the post season. Cliff Floyd can barely walk alright. He can barely use the john without wincing. Sadly that gives Cliff Floyd more in common with Frank Cashen than I even care to think about....
Stupid me, I didn't even know Cashen was still living!
CHAVEZ-"ZILLA"
VS.
"STIFF" FLOYD.
and Randolph can be Don King.
I agree, Endy should start. It's sad, but with the way Cliff has played this year as a starter, he may be better for the team as a late-game lefty pinch hitter with pop.
whatever happens willie the dumb will make the wrong decision any moron can manage this team.wait to the playoffs.willie will be exposed
I always prefer to give the previous starter the benefit of the doubt when coming back from an injury. In this case, Floyd deserves that chance. But, Chavez has done a terrific job in left with his defense, speed, and hitting. I wouldn't mind seeing them platoon for the first few weeks to see if Floyd can get his stroke back before the playoffs start. Floyd has the ability to carry a team for a while and the Mets shouldn't count that out come playoff time.
On a side note, I got to see the Mets beat up on the Rockies last night at Coors Field. Trachsel really is a human rain delay (I stole that reference from someone, not sure who). It's great to have a starter that can eat up innings like he does and rarely go on the DL. But I'm really hoping someone other starters can step it up so he doesn't wind up starting a playoff game.
Hey Bob: In case you haven't noticed, Tigers are sinking like a stone and if they get swept by the Yanks might not even make the playoffs. "Genius" Jim Leyland was consistently outmanaged in the playoffs by Bobby Cox of all people and won his '97 title on a fluke against a clearly inferior Indians team. Smart money is on Willie.
Stick to managing the french fry guy, Bob.
agree with everything MT said about interloper Bob. Who continues to harass this thing with his anti-met hysteria with nary a fact or coherent argument to support the drivel.
anyway, I think Willie is doing the right thing with his statements in giving Endy encouragement and Cliffy something to work for. I think Clif has been a great Met these past years, and hope that fortune allows him to return for the postseason run healthy. If so, he can be a force, but besides Beltran, why should any of the OF positions be on lock down? I could see an Endy, Green, Floyd platoon amongst the three spots.
Hey, there's no crying in baseball. Cliff has never gotten started tbis season. Endy has been a revelation. He is a four tool guy (only lacking home run power) and should be in the lineup as much as possible.
I too like to give the incumbent the benefit of the doubt, if and only if he was playing up to his norm before the injury. Cliff wasn't doing that. Now the injury may be the reason for that and to his credit he never offered any excuses. I would like to see a platoon at first, keeping Chavez sharp and giving Cliff a chance to get on track. Then let the best man win! Cliff off the bench could be scary to opponents!
Would everyone feel the same about Floyd if he was putting up numbers like he did in 2005? No doubt about it.Floyd hasnt played well this year. I think Willie has a tough decision to make with Floyd. Endy has played well, but Floyd deserves a shot. I think Floyd will make the call himself if hes not performing.Hes a class act type of guy that will do whats best for the team.
BOB ONCE AGAIN YOU ARE RIGHT ON THE BOLONEY
