What? Willie worry?

The Mets announced today that Pedro Martinez was placed on the 15-day disabled list because of a right calf strain, but if you were looking for any sky-is-falling comments, manager Willie Randolph refused to take the bait.

"I’ve never been one to worry about injuries or guys who are not here," Randolph said. "I have total confidence that guys are going to step up. That’s what good teams do. Every team I’ve been on that’s always been the case. Do I wish he could have stayed in the lineup? Yeah, definitely. But you won’t see me sing the blues. I don’t sing the blues. I like jazz. It is what it is. I’m hoping he gets back real quick."

Credit Randolph for putting a positive spin on what could be a bigger problem for the Mets if Martinez is slow to return from the DL. Do you agree with Randolph? Or is this devastating news for the Mets?

Pedro remains a big question mark for the post-season...In hindsight the Mets may wish they had offered Milledge as part of a trade for Zito or Oswalt...Let's hope it doesn't come back to haunt them.

Bob, someone once called you --Bob (Captain Obvious) Buscavage. I think that is unfair.....It should have been: Bob (A-DUH I USED MY REAL LAST NAME) Buscavage.
But, be that as it may, you have a legitimate concern. The Met rotation, time is running out and I wonder what can be done at this point that could not be addressed before. Mets need another starter now. Pedro might need to shut it down so he can be FROSTY for the playoffs.

Willie uses the phrase "step up" like 27 times a day. I'm getting "fed up" with "step up."

Oh, come-on Buscavage - Omar tried to get a front line pitcher AND was willing to let go Milledge. Problem was the other clubs - Oakland and SF Giants -wanted more than that. He did the right thing. Lastings is still very young.

Oakland would have traded Zito for Milledge straight up. The METS, as in Omar Minaya, didn't want to trade Milledge. It was all over the news. I don't know where you're pulling this "Omar was willing to let go of Milledge" stuff from.

Hey Anonymous, OAKLAND IS IN FIRST PLACE. They have BEEN in FIRST place for a loooong time. So why would they deal Barry Zito now? Because you simply desire him? Check the standings before you post.
And think before you write .
Teams in first place are preparing for the playoffs.

MILLEDGE IS ALL HYPE,MORE MYTH THAN REALITY. OAKLAND AND THE GIANTS WANTED MORE BECAUSE THEY SEEN HIM PLAY AND KNEW ABOUT HIS CHARACTER PROBLEMS.CARLOS GOMEZ IS WAY BETTER THEN MILLEDGE AND SHOULD BE WITH THE METS NEXT YEAR. LASTINGS,IF HE'S NOT IN JAIL,WILL BE GONE.

Moron, ESPN and Sports Illustrated both reported that Billy Beane was ready to trade Zito for Milledge straight up, but the Mets didn't want to pull the trigger on the trade. They were ready to trade him at the deadline. You should take your head out of your ass before you post you idiot.

Hey "moron" if that is true, and you believe it to be accurate (which I doubt). Then shouldn't Omar Minaya be fired for not making the deal for Barry Zito? Especially in light of the recent health issues of the staff?
Why don't you make the call and check your pink undies at the door.

You truly are a moron with no knowledge of baseball. I would believe ESPN or SI more than a piece of crap like you. And when the possible trade was being discussed, there was no problem with Glavine and Pedro was coming back form the DL. Like you yourself pointed out, you idiot, the health issues on the staff are RECENT. The only real pitching problem they had at the trading deadline was Duaner Sanchez, which they addressed.

You are a drinker.
Do you even follow the team ?
Doesn't sound like it.....

Where is Bannister?
Where has Pedro been?
Why did Glavine miss the all-star game?
Where did Pelfry go upon returning to the minors?
Where is Humber?

ANSWER: DISABLED LIST YOU DUMB IDIOT.

Some info for you.....

April 28th Brian Bannister DL
May 26th John Maine DL
July 6th Pedro Martinez DL
All-Star game: Tom Glavine a scratch.
August 16th Pedro Martinez DL
Also in June, Billy Wagner : Sore elbow.
Minor leagues: Phil Humber DL AND Mike Pelfrey DL.
Alay Soler: also spent time on DL after being sent down.
Next time read before you post.

Met attrition to the starting staff has been a chronic and WELL documented
issue ALL year. Anyone who says otherwise is blind and has not followed the team.
You also have to factor in the ages of Trachsel, Glavine, Pedro, and El Duque
into the mix.
Asprin anyone?

Good job City Girl.....way to provoke a fight.
