This is pretty good news, too

Shea's days are officially numbered ...

METS FINALIZE NEW BALLPARK AGREEMENTS

The New York Mets announced today that they have completed and signed all agreements related to the financing, development and construction for their new ballpark. The ballpark will open on Opening Day in 2009.

Today’s news follows last week’s announcement regarding the successful offering of bonds to support the ballpark project. The $613 Million bond offering was oversubscribed by a ratio of 5 to 1.

“Today’s announcement makes our dream of building a new ballpark for our team and fans a definitive reality,” said Mets’ COO, Jeff Wilpon. “We will now move forward from site logistics work to an aggressive construction schedule. Already in our parking lot at Shea Stadium, piles are being driven and excavation and foundation work is beginning.

“We greatly appreciate the support of the City and State of New York and our local elected officials as well as our new bondholders, who all helped make the development of this privately financed ballpark a reality,” added Wilpon. “We will have an announcement about our ceremonial groundbreaking event in the coming weeks.”

New Stadium......that's really wonderful. I just hope it shakes like good ol Shea Stadium does. AND THEY BETTER BRING THE METS MAGIC HAT WITH THE APPLE or I will protest. But the bad side?....new stadium, same planes flying overhead.
SHAWN GREEN WILL BE A MONSTER FROM NOW UNTIL THE END OF THE SERIES.
GO METS !

I too hope that hat with the apple makes it to the new stadium. It's just classic Mets.

Actualy, the Mets should invest in a new apple. The current is a dented heap of junk. Gimme a shiny new piece of fruit.

Charlottesville's, VA biggest Mets Fan thinks David Wells would help in the short term. He could probably be pried away for less than a dollar! Pedro, Glavine, Wells and then Trachsel or El Duque, then Maine or Bannister. What do you think!

Patiently Watching from Afar!

Shea Stadium? I am surprised you didn't mention the standing water.
Or rather, the cesspools .

Geez; I love Shea. I am also excited about a brand new stadium right next door, but I hope Met's Executives and those deciding on the building do incorporate parts of Shea into the new stadium. Anything but that friggin apple!!!

Kill that apple!!!

That only reminds me forever of the pathetic years of the Mets during the early 80's. That is why the apple was introduced remember? The team was SOOOOooooo, bad in those days that nobody was coming to the stadium, and as a marketing effort to reach more potential fans they dreamed up this apple in the hat. It didn't help. We do not need it!!!

Lose the apple and build some other well known, highly visible part of Shea into the new stadium!!!

Francis: LINE ONE. I have George Foster and Craig Swan on hold to speak with you .....boy they sound really pissed.
ALSO Mike Torrez has left several email messages regarding your statements,
he says he has dropped 30 pounds and his slider is money.
