So long, Mini-Manny

METS ACQUIRE CATCHER MIKE NICKEAS FROM TEXAS

The New York Mets today acquired minor league catcher Mike Nickeas from the Texas Rangers in exchange for outfielder Victor Diaz. Nickeas will report to St. Lucie (A) of the Florida State League while Diaz will be assigned to Oklahoma (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League.

Nickeas, 23, appeared in 17 games with Bakersfield (A) of the California League this year, batting .297 (19-64) with six runs scored, four doubles and six RBI. Mike missed three weeks of action in May with a pulled hamstring before he was promoted to Frisco (AA) of the Texas League on May 28th. Nickeas hit .248 (28-113) with 15 runs scored, seven doubles, two home runs, 15 RBI with 21 walks and 22 strikeouts in 39 contests with Frisco.

Mike batted .202 (49-242) with seven doubles, one triple, five home runs and 24 RBI in 68 games with Frisco in 2005. He also, hit .286 (6-21) with one double, one home run and one RBI with the rookie-level Arizona Rangers.

Nickeas was named the best defensive catcher in the Rangers’ organization by Baseball America in 2005.

The 6-0, 205-pounder was Texas’ fifth round selection in the June, 2004 Free Agent Draft after spending three years at Georgia Tech.

Diaz, 24, was designated for assignment on August 22nd. He hit .224 (85-379) with 30 runs scored, 16 doubles, eight home runs, 38 RBI, 25 walks and 99 strikeouts in 103 games at Norfolk (AAA) of the International League.

Victor went 2-11 (.182) with a double and two RBI in six games with New York this year.

Mike Nickeas?
ALL WELCOME, ALL WELCOME.
JOE HIETPAS PART TWO.
Another no hit stiff who can't get above double A.
Hey maybe John Gibbons might want to make a comeback? He will be available soon and he is another blowhard.

WILLIE THE DUMB SIGHS OFF ON A STUPID DEAL.OH WILLIE

Mets finally found a real prospect
to replace Mike Piazza.
LoDuca is just killing us.
Will Nickeas be willing to wear the dress too?

Bob, is really "Bob- Herzog" . He is logging in from a cyber cafe down the street. He can only post in when David Lennon and Anthony Reiber send him out for scones.
Bob I like my coffee with 2 creams .

Mike Piazza is the daughter his family always wanted.

Are you people all on drugs or do you honestly think you're funny? Pathetic!

Shades of the Matsui/Marrero deal. In five years Nickeas and Diaz both have excellent chances of being 29 years old.

Bob: Why was this a stupid deal? Diaz is a prospect that never lived up to his potential. There are guys way ahead of him both on the current roster and the minors.

Off the subject but...I am a diehard Met Fan. I am very concerned about the Mets facing one of two left handed teams in the NLCS. (1) Marlins with Willis, Johnson, and Olsen (all lefties who give the Mets fits) and (2) Phillies with Lieber, Hamels, and Wolf (once again all lefties, not as formidable as Marlins, but Phillies lefties + Phillies bats scares me) LETS GO METS!!!!

This couldn't get any better...I mean I don't know a lot of things about sports but I sure know that I like the energy and the passion that makes these guys wanting to give their best...Even though they can't do it...

So I guess that Omar Minaya......Oh, Omar you pretender.......
WAS TOO BUSY PATTING HIMSELF ON THE BACK TO ADDRESS THE PITCHING DEPTH?
I thought that they awarded the World Series winner in October? How does Philly get Jamie Moyer AND San Diego gets David Wells for minor league roster fillers?
Omar was caught napping and he better wake up. I guess he is only interested in Latinos with suspect talent, that seems to be his pattern.

John: it is a stupid deal because Jamie Moyer will probably face the Mets in playoff situation. Wouldn't mini-manny have been attractive in a package for Moyer? Instead, the Mets get a "mini-me" from Texas. He will do nothing for no one .
I like Moyer and he should be the Mets third starter.
Where was Omar on that deal?

Met fans are pathetic wannabee yankee fans.
RYAN HOWARD OWNS THE METS OF COURSE.
He will punish the mets in the playoffs wiilie will see. Good thing the muts already celebrated a championship already although it was from 20 years ago with Davey Johnson. That is the closest they will come to seeing one. How pathetic can you get to live in the past.

Mike Piazza was a hetero sexual he just colored his hair kinda frosty to explore his softer side. There is nothing wrong with being curious.

Tom S -- Jamie Moyer. The only use he would be for the Mets is to pitch batting practice which is what he basically did last week. Moyer and Wells are names, not pitchers. This kind of thinking is why Steve Phillips works for ESPN and is not a GM.

Bob: Moyer is no better than what we already have. 7W 13L 4.50 ERA (6.00 since joining Phillie). Everyone assumes Omar was asleep with Moyer and Wells, how do we know he didn't try and the other team was not interested in what we have? It takes two teams to make a trade

Wow, another Yankee fan comes onto the Mets board to trash talk. How original. I'm sure your mom is real proud of you. You and your boyfriend are probably off somewhere giggling about how cool you are.

What Yankee fans will never understand, and it's not surprising considering your typical Yankee fan is some mid-20's know-nothing who jumped on that Yankee bandwagon once they started winning in the mid-90's, is that the 1986 Mets ruled this city like no other New York sports team before or since. Those parades that the 90's Yankees teams had in Manhattan were pathetic in comparison to the parade the '86 Mets had. As many championships as the Yankees have (and it's no surprise that Yankee "fans" never point out that the Yankees had a FIFTY-NINE YEAR headstart on the New York Mets; after all, why let facts get in the way), no Yankee team will ever match the 1986 Mets for the way they united this city and brought exciting championship baseball back to New York.

And where were all those supposed die-hard lifetime Yankee fans in the 80's when the Yankees were stinking up the New York sports scene? Not at the Stadium, that's for sure; that eyesore was as empty as a Yankee fan's skull. You were probably all at Shea rooting for the Mets. What does it say about Yankee fans' psyches when, instead of celebrating the Yankee 5-game sweep of the Bosox and ascendance back into first place, they come onto the Mets board and accuse Mets fans of wanting to be Yankee fans? Who's the real loser?

And how ironic that a Yankee fan calls a Mets fan pathetic for living in the past, since every time someone points out that the Yankewe, despite their league-leading payroll for the last 5 years, have nary gotten a whiff of a World Series title, the typical Yankee fan's Pavlovian response is "we have 26 World Series titles". Talk about living in the past. I guess it's not surprising that your typical mentally challenged Yankee fan totally embraces that which he chides others for doing.

I guess I'll get back to being jealous of Yankee fans now and waste my time watching the most exciting third baseman and shortstop in baseball, while Yankee fans can get back to watching their third baseman fail in the clutch yet again and have his shortstop throw him under the bus every chance he gets. Cheers!

Mrs. Met you are atypical in your banter and you talk about the Yankee past? The Yankee winning past will be the present and the future for you and your met unfaithful. Georgies boys will finish further in the playoffs this year, and get this Mrs. Met-----half of your idiot friends (that you talk about the mets with) will change after mets lose and be wearing Yankee shirts, yankee hats, and howling about being better than the mets. They will all jump on a real winner. How will you feel then? Honesty hurts doesn't it?

DAVID WELLS 229-146 4.07 ERA.
POSTSEASON RECORD 5-2 3.05 ERA.
JAMIE MOYER 212-165 4.17 ERA.
POSTSEASON RECORD 3-1 2.66 ERA

JOHN IS AN IDIOT.
MT IS AN IDIOT.

Nobody has even mentioned that one of our starters El Duque hasn't even pitched in "two" weeks. Put this together with Pedro infirmed and it paints a picture of neglect. Easy wins over scrub teams and giving a free pass to our Latin players is not a panacea for a championship.

MET FANS....HOW DOES THE KOOLAID TASTE?
WANDY RODRIGUEZ -OF ALL PEOPLE- JUST OUTPITCHED TOM GLAVINE YOUR ACE. IGNORANCE IS JUST THAT.
HAVE ANOTHER SIP AS YOU WATCH YOUR FANTASIES COME TO REALITY. HA

Wow Steve. Once again, in your zeal to prove that you know anything about baseball (which after your first few posts is, not surprisingly, very little), you go ahead and prove my point: Yankee fans, when faced with the fact that their team has done nothing of note the past five years, choose to ignore that and revert to the "Yankees winning past" spiel. What's the first thing you do? You ignore everything and point out that the Yankees have a winning past. Furthermore, since it obviously went over your head, let me point out how idiotic you look chiding Mets fans for celebrating the past, yet you yourself use the Yankees' past as the main point of your response.

I realize that it takes you the better part of a day to try to come up with something resembling an intelligent response, but surely you can take a short break from flipping burgers and making fries to come up with a better response than that mish-mash of words you put forth, hmmmm....? The only honesty that hurts is the fact that you are way out of your league when it comes to putting a coherent thought together. Now try to respond with something other than "the Yankees have a winning past" if you can, you dolt.

steve thinks the yankees were started in 1996, when him and his loser friends found out about them.

STEVE YOUR RIGHT ON THE MONEY.

OXYMORON: INTELLIGENT YANKEE FAN

PLAIN MORONS: STEVE AND W B MASON

AROD'S GETTING HOT--
GLAVINE CANNOT.
STUPID MET DREAMS,
TIED INTO A CLOT.
FOR ALL THE MET FANS
ITS X MARKS THE SPOT...
YOU'LL JOIN THE YANKEE CLAN,
WHETHER YOU ADMIT IT OR NOT.

HOW'S CARLOS?
IT'S ALL COMING TRUE, ISN'T IT?

Mr. Met, why can't you be wise and listen to Mr. Mason. Everything I am saying is coming true right before your eyes screwball. Carlito runs into a wall? Glavine gets smacked around?
And the best part.....after you trash my hero Arod, he blasts two home runs and catches fire.
I bought a Yankee Division champion t-shirt for you to wear. It's xx large of course.

Steve:

I've been following the Mets since '73 and there were no Yankee fans. When George Steinbrenner bought Catfish Hunter in '75, the Mets were horrible and the Yankees ruled from '75 until 1984. The Yankees were so-so and the Mets were young and exciting (just like now). The Mets outdrew the Yankees from 1984 to 1992. That's nine seasons in a row the Mets outdrew the Yankees and ruled the sports page. Mets then went into a tailspin and the Yankees began their great run.

Mets will outperform the Yankees in the playoffs this year and outdraw them next year.

Yanks control market and force other teams to compete.Yanks have the most successful regional sports network in the country.Yanks now will be in the playoffs for 12 consecutive seasons and during that span they doubled their regular season attendance. Cost money to make money something the Wilpon's do not like to do-they had to spend the last two seasons because of the new network and hopes of public funding for a new stadium. No way do Mets outperform or outdraw Yanks next year or in the near future. In fact, after watching Oswalt shut them down yesterday, the Mets will have a big problem if the Marlins,Dodgers or Astros get in the playoffs.

Brian Cashman on the Mets blog!?!?!? As that fossil Phil Rizzuto would say, HOLY COW!!!!!!

It just goes to show you that, just like their pathetic fans, even the Yankees GM is obsessed with the Mets.

Try to come up with a more original name next time, you silly bunny foo-foo.

YOUR RIGHT ON THE MONEY CASH. THE FACT THAT NO ONE DISAGREES PROVES YOUR POINT.

STEVE + MALE ROOSTERS = TRUE LOVE

STEVE IS A BUNNY FOO-FOO
OF THIS WE ARE SO SURE
BUT FOR HIS STUPIDITY
THERE ISN'T ANY CURE

HE WEEPS AND WEEPS AND WEEPS SO MUCH
WHEN THE METS WIN YET AGAIN
THEN DROWN HIS SORROWS IN GAY BARS
WITH FELLOW YANKEE MEN

HIS FAVORITE PLAYER IS A-ROD
STEVE'S HEAD IS FILLED WITH ROCKS
SINCE WE ALL KNOW THE REASON WHY

STEVE IS SO AMUSING
THO HIS BRAIN WORKS IN SLO-MO
HE AND MASON AND BOB
MAKE A MERRY TRIO OF HOMOS

AND NOW I MUST BID YOU ADIEU
AND WISH TO STEVE THE SAME
SINCE HE NEEDS TO TROLL GAY BARS
TO GET A DATE FOR TOMORROW'S GAME

have you been watching willie the dumbs coaching staff---clueless except at eating sunflower seeds

No Balls O'Fire-Did it ever enter your empty head that my name is also Cashman.

Bob: Willie is dumb? So it's an accident that the team plays excellent defense and seldom beats itself? I think I'll take Willie's IQ score over your's Bob.

Cashman:

So far the Mets have outperformed the Yankees this year. The Mets' nucleus is far younger. In five years, when Jeter is 37 and AROD 36,
Reyes, Wright and even Beltran
will still be in their primes.

MT: when Jeter is 37 and A Rod is 36 with 700-750 Home Runs where will Glavine,Pedro,Wagner, and Delgado be? True Reyes,Wright and Beltran are having great years but what about Wang,Cano and Cabrera. Who can predict the future but it's safe to say that the Yanks owner always gives his team a chance to win no matter what the cost. Yankee fans should be grateful that they have a owner who puts the profits back into the team and not his pocket.

WELL SAID CASHMAN YOU ALONG WITH BOB AND STEVE MAKE THIS A ENTERTAINING BLOG.

Oh, c'mon Cashman, the Yankees couldn't give Mayrod away at the trading deadline. You know and I know they tried like magicians to make that deal happen.
Even Reggie Jackson admitted as much and he is in the inner yankee circle .
Yes, Reggie had something smart to say. Arod should leave.
Arod is the MVP alright, Most Valuable Primmadonna.

Cashman: Glavine, Pedro, Wagner and Delgado will be retired along with Posada, Giambi, Williams, Matsui, Sheffield, Abreu, Mussina, Johnson, Wright, Farnsworth and Rivera. Basically, half your team.

To get to 700 home runs, A-Rod has to hit another 240 home runs (45 a year). Unless he consults with Giambi's doctor, that's not happening. He will put up 35 HR 100 RBI years and still be hated by spoiled Yankee fans.

Cash, 2000 is now six years ago and the Yankees are as far away from the WS as ever. Does a hurt Mussina and an ancient Johnson scare anyone? Wang is a good, not great, pitcher. Would anyone be suprised by another early exit? No. Keep up the rotisserie baseball. The smart money is on the Mets.
