In additon to Tom Glavine, the Mets announced after Sunday's game that Jose Reyes won't be playing in the All-Star Game either. Reyes' stitched-up finger is still a concern, and it's obvious the Mets are putting a priority on the second half of the season rather than Tuesday's exhibition. So now the Mets will have just three of their six All-Stars actually in the game -- David Wright, Paul Lo Duca and Carlos Beltran.
What do you think, Mets fans? Disappointed? Or is the promise of the playoffs this season enough to shake off this little setback?
(In response to Ironman's posting, Reyes will be attending the All-Star Game, but he will not play in any capacity. That means no pinch-hitting or pinch-running. He will walk out for the introductions, tip his cap and then watch from the bench.)

Well, I think REYES said he was still going to attend. So hopefully he'll get to pinchrun for someone. Sucks he won't being playing though, he deserves it.
It's disappointing for about five minutes, then you realize you won't even remember next week...
It's disappointing for the NL team and for Reyes, who 100% earned his spot. But we need Rey for the 2nd half of the season. It's the right choice not to endanger him.
Sad, sad, sad.

Mr. Met says that you are one fine-looking lady, Zoe. Mr. Met will definitely visit your MLBlog if you continue posting pictures of yourself.... and of course continue with your rabid support of the New York Mets. "Don't talk shi-- about Cliff" indeed. I love how liquored-up fans suddenly know more than anyone out there and can supposedly play the game better than the PROFESSIONALS on the field. And like you pointed out, it's usually the guy that takes up two seats and looks like he's never done anything athletic in his life......
SOS-The ship be sinking.Pedro,Glavine and Wagner will not get us to the WS.We need pitching before the wheels fall off.Wright and Reyes the only untouchables.
Heck, I didn't want Wright to participate in the derby.
I wasn't too thrilled about DW doing the home-run derby either, but I don't think it will affect his swing, which is the one major concern. I think Wright is a good hitter who hits home runs, as opposed to Howard and Abreu, who are home run hitters, and with their natural uppercut swings would be more susceptible to trying to power balls out as opposed to a level swinger like Wright. Now watch Wright prove me wrong and go into a 1 for 40 slump and try to jack everything out....
Nice to see two of the Mets All-Stars contribute to the scoring.
Trevor Hoffman is a piece of crap.
We deserved that one. As I mentioned over at my place, the Mets rocked the NL team like it was their own private talent show. Our boys are just so good.

Zoe, stop using the Mets to promote yourself.
Actually it was Major League Baseball itself that contacted me and asked me to write about the Mets and my book. They've been expecting me to write more about the book in fact!
They're looking to do more cross-promotion with MLBlogs for other people's projects as well.
So it wasn't even my idea, Mr. Dipper.

You should change your name to Big Zipper cuz you're a huge TOOL.
My tool will make you drool.
I was pretty happy to see Pedro, Glavine, and Reyes not play. Let everyone rest and heal up. It's a long second half and Glavine and Pedro will be heavily relied on, especially if Omar can't get anyone worthwhile.
That said, thanks to Trevor Hoffman for blowing it for all of us.
it definitely sucked for reyes because he definitely deserved to be there and play, and glavine just got unlucky by pitching on sunday, i plan to be at shea in october so that makes up for all of it
Heilman as a starter? Why not? Pedro and Glavine are not getting any younger. Think about it, in 1987 Terry Leach started in the bullpen and went into the rotation-- finished at 11-1. Also in 1988, the next year, David Cone started in the pen, he finished in the rotation at 20-3. It can be done, the Mets have done it before. Heilman's college, minor league and 2005 starts were not an aberration, he has a lethal upside to consider and Duaner Sanchez has been filthy this year.
Great job by Trevor Hoffman in the All-Star Game. I think at one point Joe Buck pointed out (of course after the go-ahead run had scored) that Hoffman's All-Star Game ERA was over 10.00. If you squinted for a second, you would have sworn it was Billy Wagner on the mound. Actually, it wasn't too far from a Wagner outing: Wright and Beltran are the heroes, and then Wagner comes in and blows the save in spectacular fashion. Wright, Glavine, Reyes, Beltran and LoDuca were probably experiencing déjà vu right at that moment.
