Beltran out

Carlos Beltran left today's game after the top of the sixth inning because of right knee soreness. A Mets official said it was bothering him before the game as well, but it's unclear how long Beltran has felt the discomfort. Endy Chavez replaced him in centerfied for the bottom half of the inning.

Despite the minor injuries that Carlos Beltran has endured, he is putting up numbers that may be his best ever. His Homerun and RBI totals in comparison to the number of at bats he has had this season are astounding. His defense has been amazing. However, being healthy for the playoffs is priority
one for the Mets. Beltran heads the list of those that need to avoid prolonged injury so that depth will not be an issue for New York. He can't lead others from the trainers chair--he needs to be an "on the field General" . Then he will be complete, as we always hoped he would become
for New York.

Why was Beltran playing all 9 innings in the All-Star game ? Fortunately the Mets big lead will allow the walking wounded to completely recover for the stretch drive and the playoffs.

Beltan played all 9 because he deserved it and his ex manager likes to see him play all the time, just as he will have to do the rest of the year if the Mets are to win it all. I could not agree with Frank D. more, Beltran must lead from the field just as Cliff Floyd did last year. Carlos would have been the All Star MVP if it wasn't for Hoffman's 0-2, 2 out, hit me to the fence pitch.
