There's Joy in Metville


After one of the greatest road trips in team history, you'd think the home clubhouse at Shea Stadium would be a veritable funhouse. That was the case Friday night, but the truth is, it wasn't much different than it has been all season. This really is the Fun Bunch.
Jose Reyes and David Wright are always smiling; Pedro Martinez is always clowning. Tom Glavine and Billy Wagner were their usual chatty selves and the Carlos's, Delgado and Beltran, were quietly all business. The TVs were tuned to college baseball and a replay of Thursday's Mets game at Philadelphia, less raucous than usual because there wasn't a movie of dubious taste playing on the flat screen.
Chemistry may be an overrated ingredient, but it certainly doesn't hurt. The Mets' have been getting in 'A' in chemistry all season, which is fitting since they've had their 'A' game going most of the time.

Based on record, they would be first in any division in baseball. If your implying that their competition in the division isn't too tough and they wouldn't do well in another division, how come they just annihalited the NL West on this road trip?

Good point,how would the Mets do in the AL East?This from a Red Sox fan who happens to think there are at least seven teams in the AL who are better than the Mets.

SORRY,ON SECOND THOUGHT THERE ARE 8 TEAMS IN AL BETTER THAN THE METS :RED SOX-YANKS-BLUE JAYS-WHITE SOX-OAKLAND-TEXAS AND THE ANGELS.I MEAN NO DISRESPECT,I UNDERSTAND MET FANS HAD LITTLE TO CHIRP ABOUT THE LAST FEW YEARS BUT BEST TEAM IN BASEBALL--GET REAL.

Woulda coulda shoulda. All you hosers who bitterly complain about the Mets being in first place in the weak NL East: Suck it up. None of your complaining is going to change anything. And while other ballclubs may be "better" in your eyes, the truth of the matter is that (a) the Mets are in FIRST PLACE, and (b) the Mets are THE most exciting ballclub to watch right now.

Anonymous, based on their 43-25 record, the Mets would be in first place in 5 of baeball's 6 divisions. And Boston Fan: instead of worrying about how well the Mets are doing, you should worry about the fact that your pathetic team has not exactly distinguished itself in a division where its main competition is a washed-up, broken down Yankees team.

Boston Fan - arguing about who is better between leagues is a hypothetical with no clear cut answer. as a fan, and no doubt closer observer of one league you have your opinion ... we clearly have ours.

Belligerently demanding facts to dispute your subjective opinion that the top 8 teams in the majors are all in the AL is a ridiculous request.

First off, you ignore the AL team with the best record, the Tigers. Secondly, you list a Texas team with obvious pitching flaws and an Angels team struggling to score runs. Finally, if you go by the James expected wins forumla which uses run differential, which can be viewed on the Basball prospectus site, you would see that the mets have the third best expected record in the majors. Those are facts sir.

And in 2006, I look at the standings and see the New York Mets with more wins and a better winning percentage than your beloved Sox.
