Designer Michael Kors finds sanctuary on Fire Island

When three teenagers looted homes last week in the exclusive Water Island community of Fire Island, among the items they pilfered was a flat-screen television from the home of “Project Runway” judge Michael Kors.

According to public records, Kors has owned the .10 acre property since 2001, when he purchased the A-frame house for $950,000. Kors, a native Long Islander, told W magazine that same year that his décor was “Conran's chic…but not Conran's under the 59th Street Bridge…I have to ship it in from London." The beachfront house, Kors told the magazine, was the first he had ever bought.

Last year Kors described his life on Water Island to The Toronto Star newspaper. “There are 28 houses and no roads, no cars, no restaurants," he said. "So when I go there I do normal things, like cook. I was on Martha Stewart's show and I made spaghetti and meatballs. She couldn't believe it. But in this business, you have to force yourself to slow down. If you don't, you can find yourself in a sticky situation."
