Those Long Island foreclosure tours and the reality

Here’s a postcard from the front lines of home sales and home buying: As real estate agents nationwide, and now in Long Island, take their shows on the road with bus tours of foreclosed houses, Teresa Boardman writes soberly on Inman News on the challenges of brokering and selling in this market. It’s like playing poker without a full deck, she says.

Also, she thinks zero down on a house is not a good idea, judging by the amounts some homeowners have to bring to the table to sell. The strategy is backward. “They bring the same amount of money to the closing when they sell their home as they would have brought when they bought it if they had made a down payment or paid their closing costs,” she writes.

Boardman sells in St. Paul, Minn. and writes the St. Paul Real Estate Blog, where she also displays her amazing photos.
