Filmmaker Jake Gorst is inviting the public to step in from the cold Wednesday from 6 to 8 pm at the Wolffer Vineyard on Sagaponack Road in Sagaponack for a wine and cheese tasting and the chance to preview his film “Leisurama.”
His hour-long documentary examines the story of the Leisurama beach houses once sold at Macy’s to post-war families looking for an affordable “escape to a fun, playful utopia.” About 250 of the homes went up in Montauk by 1964, all supplied with a General Electric kitchen and fully furnished down to the china and towels. They were designed by Gorst’s grandfather, architect Andrew Geller of Northport, best known for his creative, modern beach houses.
The event is actually a fundraiser (tickets $25) to help prepare the film for national PBS broadcast distribution this spring. Call 631-232-2345 to RSVP and for directions. Pay at the door.
