Clay Aiken won't be buying that Queens coop

Ok, ok, so Clay Aiken didn’t buy the 3216-square-foot corner unit with a 4,280 sqarare feet of terrace at the Arris Lofts in Long Island City. The $2.995 million sale became news in May, but speculation recently heated up that Aiken (Clayton Holmes Grissom) who turns 30 late this year, was the new owner.

But then the rumor roiled a bit and it turns out the new owner is probably DJ Danny Tenaglia, who’s turning 57 in a few weeks. Also said to be an owner is Placido ("When I rest, I rust") Domingo, a singer with golden operatic pipes.

Who knew that Arris Lofts near the base of the 59th Street Bridge would become a magnet for the musically talented and inclined? Until recently, it was a known stomping ground for ladies of the night, some of whom still hang out near the subway stop. The area also has easy access to the Long Island City court house, one of the elegant dowagers of Queens architecture, and a court division dedicated to prostitution crimes.

The lofts are in a triangular industrial building renovated and put on the market this past year. Many of the units have large windows and high ceilings. Prices aren’t posted on the Web site but the screening window mentions prices ranging from $500,000 to more than $2 million. A huge selling point is that the building has killer views (no binoculars needed) of the East River and Manhattan, the better to help the hopelessly hip not feel, well, like they’re living in Queens.
