Built in 1776, this 22-room Colonial in Old Westbury once belonged to the Post family, who owned the estate for more than 200 years. Not to be confused with the Posts after which the nearby college is named, these Posts were Quaker reformers who held small abolitionist meetings at their house, entertaining the likes of William Lloyd Garrison, Frederick Douglass, Susan B. Anthony and Sojourner Truth. The Post Road house was a stop on the Underground Railroad. At any one time, 10 to 20 former slaves were kept overnight at the pump house.
Joan Gordon, who is listing the property on behalf of Prudential Douglas Elliman Real Estate in Locust Valley, says only two other families have owned the house. The current owners are asking $2,249,999.
Located on almost three acres with a pool, the 7,600-square-foot house has seven bedrooms, 4.5 baths and seven fireplaces. The 4,000-square-foot carriage/pool house has a wet bar, cabanas and a party room. There's a five-car garage and stables.
