The estate of Ahmet Ertegun, co-founder of Atlantic Records, last month sold off 1.87 acres of vacant land in Southampton, according to public records. The Duck Pond Lane property fetched $8.525 million.
The legendary record executive who died last December, owned a home in Southampton with wife Mica, an interior designer. The pair have been a fixture on the East End for many years.
Ertegun signed and nurtured many music legends such as Ray Charles, Led Zeppelin, Otis Redding and Aretha Franklin. In a tribute in Rolling Stone magazine earlier this year, Franklin said, “Even after I left Atlantic, I never left Ahmet. He and I remained friends. I would have lunch with him and Mica whenever I was out in Southampton.”
Ertegun was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. Next month, members of Led Zeppelin are headlining a tribute concert in London to honor the Turkish native.
Records show the executor of Ertegun’s estate also sold two Bridgehampton properties in June. The first was a 2.85 acre vacant parcel on Halsey Lane which sold for $4.5 million. The second was an 8.62 acre agricultural reserve which sold for $1 million.
