The Swamp

by Matthew Hay Brown

Sen. Edward M. Kennedy has made a dramatic return to the Senate, his first visit since suffering a seizure in May that led to a brain cancer diagnosis and surgery, to cast the 60th vote Democrats needed on a Medicare bill that failed last month without him.

The Senate chamber erupted in bipartisan applause moments ago as Kennedy entered, escorted by presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama, fellow Massachusetts Democrat John Kerry, best Senate friend Chris Dodd and his son, Rep. Patrick Kennedy of Rhode Island. Wife Vicki Kennedy and niece Caroline Kennedy watched from the front row of the gallery.

A grin spread across Kennedy's face as he appoached the dais and cast his vote with a loud "Aye."

The Medicare Improvement for Patients and Providers Act of 2008, already passed by the House, would delay a 10.6% reduction in Medicare physician fees. It failed to achieve cloture by one vote last month.

As it turned out, it passed today by a 69-30 vote.

John Mc Cain and Barach H. Oboma are staying away from the number one issue: When are we going to start drilling for oil in all of the choice locations in our own country? Is there any reason not to, or are our politicians just plain stupid? Their excuses that it would take years to get started
is getting a bit old. It seems to me that if John Mc Cain or Barach Oboma can't or won't get off their backsides and change their negative opinions of our country being self reliant for its oil needs then perhaps neither of these politicians is suited to run our government.

What are the real reasons for a big percentage our countries economy being siphoned off to middle eastern oil concerns or are we just plain stupid to keep listening to their insipid arguments that all is hopeless and that we are responsible for this. In fact we are for electing politicians with no gumption or reasoning powers to determine what is best for our great country. All of their talk is meant to get them into office so that their party can get more jobs for their own elk. They don't give a damn about our great country which is founded on free enterprise-not political hacks that put their ambitions ahead of our country needs.

This country was not founded on " free-enterprise ", but as a democracy, where everyone should have an equal opportunity, to share in our wealth. When that day will come maybe sooner than later, if Senator Obama is elected President, instead of the Republican candidate !! You can use President Bush for that example, the Republicans have failed miserably, in the sharing of America's wealth. if, any thing, they have increased the gap between the haves and the have-nots. That isn't even " free-enterprise ", it's their version of another aristocracy, albeit, a knock-off, at that !!

Not that I fully disagree, but what do the first two posts have to do with the story? I thought relevance mattered here in the Swamp.

So Kennedy, while undergoing chemo, has the courage to go vote on a critical Medicare bill. Meanwhile, McCain is NOWHERE to be found on the senate floor.

Teddy Kennedy who is fighting against a brain tumor which is likely to be terminal was able to show up for the vote, but John McCain, who wants to be President couldn't be bothered to get there. What a sad contrast.

If this is the actual article on the return of a truly great American, Senator Edward M. Kennedy, than it was a great day for America and for our Congress. May God assist Senator Kennedy in his battle against this illness. He will definitely need His help and all of our help, with prayers and good thoughts. As our good Lord said: Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone.

Its no surprise McLoser didnt show up for this vote. He has missed more votes this session of Congress than any other Senator!! Andyou right wingers want him for President? If he cant do his job now how the heck do you expect him to do it while in the White House! Senator Kennedy is terminally ill with cancer and made it to vote for gods sake!! McCain is a disgrace to the institution and process of our country and our people!
