Some conservative bloggers have been circulating claims that a warm-up concert by a German band may have been partly responsible for the more than 200,000 people Berlin police estimated attended a Barack Obama rally in their city. But for those present, it was clear that the crowd was inordinately excited by the appearance of the American presidential candidate.

From the media area next to the main platform, there were no visible signs that people were leaving after the band performed but before Obama spoke. As Obama walked onto the platform, cries rose from the crowd of "Yes, we can," his campaign slogan.

A handful of people in the crowd interviewed afterward expressed enthusiasm for Obama. None mentioned the warm-up band, Reamonn.

"I wondered: Is it true that he wants to travel the world, get to know the people and talk to them, even though we cannot vote?" said Max Zaher, 32, of Berlin, who came to the speech with his girlfriend. "It is true. I felt kind of [like] he was talking to me and not the cameras."

"I have big expectations and hope he will be changing lots," said Jorinde Kniper, 27, a Dutch-French woman living in Berlin who came to the speech with her German husband and their 3-year-old daughter, Riocha.

There were other signs of high interest in Obama as he made his way through Berlin. Crowds gathered behind barricades in the front and rear of the Democrat's hotel, apparently in hopes of catching a glimpse of him.

Of course the rightwing is creating false impressions of what really happend. This is typical of them to re-write history to their advantage. Only problem is, the more they attack Obama with lies and inuendos, the more they look desperate and out of touch with what the majority of Americans want. Change in direction, change in ultra right hypocritical opinions and change from an Imperialistic country back to a Republic for which it stands! McCain is burying himself with all of these lies and attack ads. Trust me, America knows better... finally!

Sounds like a lot of curious people out for the day and the concert. Nothing more. Empty speech..Empty rhetoric..Typical rock star ego..He will never win without HRC on the ticket...Get ready for 4 more years of Bush.

Yet another Republican attack on Obama is disproven. What a surprise. This one (that Obama can only attract a crowd by providing a rock concert first) has the unmistakable stench of Republican flop-sweat. Each new attack unintentionally reveals an increased level of desperation coming from the double-talk express.

Obama attracts a crowd because his message of hope resonates with people everywhere. The crowd comes out to see and hear Obama and the entertainment is there to warm-up the crowd before the main event: Obama's speech. If the crowd was just there to see the bands, they wouldn't be staying for the speech. McCain has nothing new to offer to help get us out of the mess that he and his party have created, so he resorts to attacks. The fact that many of the lowest attacks come straight from the candidate's own mouth tells you just how desperate McCain is.

Time for your daily dose of reality, kids:
Would the crowd be there at all without the entertainment acts? Some would, of course. And of course, some wouldn't. It can't be quantified.
Question for "Quipy":
What is this resonating "message of hope", anyway? Obama repeats the word "hope" endlessly, but never in the context of a message. What have you heard that the rest of humanity hasn't?

Why doesn't John McCain follow a free Toby Keith concert? Because he knows even then everyone would find something better to do. It's a fact. McCain is not inspiring.

I've heard what Obama has to say. And it give me hope that change is possible. I don't know about the rest of the humanity, but I've heard. And I'd like to give him that chance. The Real World, if you want specifics, feel free to visit Obama's official site: http://www.barackobama.com/issues/

Qustion for The Real World, what have McCain given you, in the context of a message, that you've heard that the rest of the humanity hasn't? That he's not as popular as Obama? What?

This group is well known all over Europe, they have 5 albums. Their first album Tuesday (produced by Steve Lyon) and the first single "Supergirl" were major successes. Both went GOLD and became the most-played song on German radio in 2000. Reamonn became stars and played at many festivals and concerts. In autumn 2000 they went on their own tour to promote their first album with support from Heyday. Future songs "Josephine" and "Waiting There For You" achieved similar success.

Add this with FREE BEER AND FREE BRATS to eat. Yeah, keep trying to re-sell a trip that was a polls-no gain ha ha, not buying it here.

Hopefully we can change and always hope for change... that is the hope that I hope for! Got any spare change?

You interviewed two persons and concluded that no one came to hear the concerts instead of Herr Obama. Is that called scientific polling? Regardless, the concept of an American political campaign appearance in Berlin, site of even larger political rallies in the not-so-distant past, is a bit hard to stomach and brings up sad images usually reserved for the History Channel.

You right wingers are rediculously desperate and embarassing America around the world. Mccain has nothing to offer and Obama has hope that we could do better. You're all just jealous brats stuck with a Milk Toast candidate and we have someone who is bright, educated, eloquent, and has hope. You remember the word hope from religous school dont you?

Either way if they were there for the concert of for Obam's performance, it had no effect on the polls in this country, which means it was a big waste of campaign funds. But I guess you could say he was an interesting opening act for the concert.

Oh how I wish that were true! Unfortunately the taxpayers footed the bill for the Messiah's failed campaign tour. It was ostensibly a Congressional fact finding junket.

Hummmm. Why wd Jonah McCain want to make fun of the big crowds and celebrity??
Reverse psychology most like. Make the enemy gunshy. Self conscious (in a bad way). Try to make Barack tread more slowly and softly.
Just one of the dirty tricks in their dirty trick bag.

I was under the impression that the taxpayers paid for the Iraq and Afghanistan part of the trip and the campaign paid for the rest of the vacation.

That would make more sense. Maybe you're right. I'll have to check.

Scot S. Blakeley 2:27 PM>Maybe you can tell me something>I know he does a lot of talking and lots of speeches, but name a big accomplishement that Obama has had while he was either an Oranganizer or Senator???
