"Barack Obama has a serious iPod,'' says Will Dana, managing editor of Rolling Stone magazine.
John Coltrane.
Stevie Wonder
Bruce Springsteen, and more.
These are among the personal details that Jann Wenner, editor of the music magazine, has wrested from the Democratic candidate for president in an interview featured in the new issue of Rolling Stone, which, for the second time this election cycle, features a photo of Obama on its cover. Only a photo this time. No words.
It's "the moment,'' Dana explains.
The m.e. was explaining all this on Morning Joe, that MSNBC program that attracts all sorts of people -- Rick Davis, John McCain's campaign manager, among them this morning, explaining that the Republican candidate is not all that worried about polls like the new L.A. Times survey showing a significant advantage for Obama, a survey which Davis believes has oversampled Democrats.
In the record-rack department, Dana suggests that Obama has a hands-down advantage over McCain, known for his affinity for Abba.
But rememember, this is the magazine that has featured Democrats Al Gore, Howard Dean and John Kerry on its covers as well. "We got Al Gore elected,'' Dana joked. Joe Scarborough asked asked Dana when they plan to put McCain on the cover of the Rolling Stone:
"We're working on it.''

brigitte,
The first black American to be nominated for president by one of the two major political parties is a loser? How do you come to that conclusion?

brigitte:
At least Rocky Obama believes in America more than fascist Italy. A loser is someone who lies to make an invasion appear to be a war. If Bush only believed in America, he wouldn't have to backstab, backpaddle and blame. He wouldn't have to torture and hold anyone incommunicado.
But, brigitte, you probably don't know who John Coltrane is. And the fact that Obama's iPod is eclectic escapes your closeted little mind. Accept it that one of the highlights of being American is that we have a Springsteen right next to a Waylon, a Miles Davis right next to a Stevie Wonder, a Sam & Dave. But you haven't heard them, either, I suspect. Suffice to say Karl Rove wishes he were welcome at Willie Nelson's truckstop. Obama will no doubt emphasize the best, not just the richest, of the real America, where the President doesn't have to rely on privilege to escape prosecution.

McCain on the cover of Rolling Stone? You think he even has an iPod? I'm sure there are more apppropriate magazines for him to be featured...anyone have a suggestion?

" brigitte ", don't take your loss so hard!! Senator Obama beat Senator Clinton as fairly as the system and Senator Clinton would allow !! Even though your candidate lost, not all candidates are losers !! Senator Obama won, in spite of your being a sore loser !!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE AND WHOLE. NOW.

Obama fleshes out his energy policy: 1) Lots of ethanol pork, 2) Jimmy Carter's windfall profit tax resurrected, and now 3) a nuclear policy straight out of a 1979 Jackson Browne concert. Appropriate for something like Rolling Stone, that's been about as relevant since, n'est-ce pas?

Unfair? It's Rolling Stone Magazine, not Shuffle Board Monthly...

Whew! I am relieved Obama has an iPod and not a dorky Zune or some other wannabe clone. Bet he also uses a Mac and not a crash and stall Windows clunker.
On the other hand, I have heard McCain does not even use a computer??

McCain could certainly grace the cover of....
"Old People," the first issue of which hit newsstands with its first issue Tuesday, features an oversized format with words printed in gigantic typeface large enough for even the oldest of the old to see clearly.
Featuring very large color pictures as well as special "I-Can-Read-It-All-By-Myself" stories--which contain no big words--the magazine's diverting, old-people-pleasing content is expected to provide the elderly with a fun and non-threatening experience.

I was pleased to see Barack Obama's face grace the cover of Rolling Stone yet again. All of the magazine and newspaper articles that have been published lately focus on either his wife, Michelle and her recent campaign for a softer image, or how he will be the "first" African American president(If he was of full-blooded African American descent, then I would agree, but he is a symbol for America's move to a more multi-cultural society).Articles have also recently focused on his family's questionable ties in Kenya and Indonesia; however, I think his distant family who has had little part in his life is by no means a judge of the person he has become. He is a very educated, intellectual and we should not hold a family untied to him responsible for who America thinks he is going to become. Obama has transcended several different stereotypes to get to where he is today.
Anyway, I think this Rolling Stone cover and article helps the American public see that he is an individual, not a stereotype. I always love seeing candidates outside of newspaper headlines and into media that reaches a younger audience. He is just a normal person--he reads literature from some of the most noted names in history and is a fan of an eclectic variety of music. He is a much more relatable figure than the media first believed. It is far past the time that we need to look past the color of his skin and his family’s origin and look vigilantly at the issues he wants to accomplish. He has a passion for this country that I have no seen in years and listening to what he wants to accomplish is past due.

Obama for President because he has a cool ipod?!?!? What an idiotic concept!
That kind of simpleton thought has gradually but completely driven me away from the left.
