The Swamp

Posted by Frank James at 12:23 pm CST

I had mixed feelings about writing this since we'd selfishly prefer readers of The Swamp to stay with us after President Bush's State of the Union speech tonight instead of going off to another blog. Anyway, Sen. Richard Durbin (D-Ill.,) the Senate's Assistant Majority Leader, will be blogging on the liberal DailyKos tonight.

You can read the press release below. It seems to be written for people outside the blogosphere (do any such people still exist?) since it offers a quick definition and description of blogging and blogs.

I particularly like this line. "Recent studies show that nearly a quarter of the population in the U.S. reads blogs at least once a week (and of that group nearly one-third are moved to undertake some type of political action)."

That tells you everything you need to know as too why Durbin will be blogging instead of down in the media scrum in Statuary Hall, shooting off Democratic talking points. He'll be typing them instead for all of you blog readers out there.

DURBIN TO BLOG AFTER STATE OF THE UNION

[WASHINGTON, DC] – In his role as Assistant Democratic Leader, U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) will be called upon to respond to the President’s State of the Union Address tonight. But he won’t be standing in front of a TV camera, holding a press conference or talking to newspaper reporters. Instead, Durbin will be blogging on DailyKos.com from his Capitol office after the State of the Union.

Weblogs, or blogs, are personal online journals, one of the fastest-growing phenomena on the internet. There are currently an estimated 50 million blogs in existence today. Recent studies show that nearly a quarter of the population in the U.S. reads blogs at least once a week (and of that group nearly one-third are moved to undertake some type of political action).

Durbin is the most senior Democratic elected official to blog post State of the Union. Cameras and videographers are invited to photograph while the senator blogs.

DATE: Tuesday, January 23, 2006
TIME: approx. 10:30 PM
LOCATION: Assistant Democratic Leader’s Office
S-321, U.S. Capitol
Washington, DC

If any Republican lawmakers will be similarly blogging on conservative sites, please let us know and we'll post that on this blog as well.

Dick Turban Durbin...
The scumball that compared our troops to Nazis and Soviets running the gulags.
Oh,The DailyKos...figures.
Paulo

Paulo,

The slimeball Republicans can't field anyone who can beat Senator Durbin.
You're welcome to run against him anytime you want to Paulo.
The GOP in Illinois is deader than a pet rock.

Hey Paulo, you still haven't answered the question that I've been asking you.

WHY SHOULD I VOTE FOR A REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE FOR PRESIDENT IN 08?

Pretty easy one Paulo, lets hear you give it a go,this should be good.

By the way, what's your middle name?....Adolph?

I don't waste alot of time with superhero's that wear their underwear outside their tights.
But,my middle name isn't "HUSSEIN",like Barack Obama's.
And I'm happy to see that scum,Turban Durin blogs with the tin foil hat crowd at DailyKos...I'm sure your proud of him and his support for our troops.
Paulo

I just want to encourage conservatives everywhere to use nicknames like Turban Durbin and to continue pointing out that Obama's middle name is Hussein. These attacks are so outlandish that people don't judge Durbin or Obama. They judge the side that is making the attacks. Fox has lost a whole 'nuther ratings point since their little madrassa blow-up. Soon, they'll be able to drop the cable channel and just podcast to the 14 people still listening.

What if Obama chnaged his middle name to "Moishe?" Would the Bible-thumping hillbillies like him better?

Answer my question Paulo.

WHY SHOULD I VOTE FOR A REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE FOR PRESIDENT IN 08?

I can't put it anymore simple than that Paulo.

By the way, what's your middle mame?...Maurice?

Hurry up Paulo, mommy is going to make you get off her computer soon

joe,

You're right.
I think PaulO' is really BillO',they both can't complete a whole sentence.

Guys...stop picking on Paulo. I think everyone should vote on the size of a man/womans ears.
Maybe Paulo didn't run for office because of a physical feature that might not have been BIG enough.

joe,
The thing is that kind of talk isn't Conservative at all. It's goofy radical right wing ranting. The Conservatives that I call friends are all about respecting the dignity of individuals.

bill r,
Funny one.

Leo, you're right. I've been a voting Democrat since 1972, and have always respected, until recently, my Republican-voting opponents. We didn't agree on most political arguments, but respected each other.

Not any more.
