Unfortunately for the Democrats, the torrential rain which inundated the nation’s capital this week ended in time to allow the playing of the 45th Annual Roll Call Congressional Baseball Game.

The Republicans stomped the Democrats 12 to 1 in the game played at RFK Stadium, home of the Washington Nationals. Whether or not this is an omen for the November elections who can say? But it looks like the Democrats need to work on their pitching and defense maybe even more than their political message.

On the mound was Illinois’s own Rep. John Shimkus who pitched the entire seven innings.

The loser according to a news brief on the Roll Call website was Rep. Joe Baca of California. Roll Call says it was the sixth consecutive win for Republicans. Sounds familiar, doesn't it?

Wow! What a beating.

Nowhere near as bad as Dubya's poll numbers though. The game that really counts.

Hey Doug, the game that really counts will be played in November. Dubya's polls are up to 41% and rising. Remember, the last game that really counted? I remember your side being ahead at this point in the game, too. Be very wary.

Fine win for the GOP congressional team.

Bill,

Okay, I concede your November point.

But where do you get 41% and rising? Dubya got the 1% bump from offing Zarqawi (may his 72 virgings be ugly and toothless) but what other poll (that is credible) do you find Dubya above 40%?

Give the Dems a break! Baseball's a tough game, especially when you have to take a poll to decide whether the pitch is a ball or a strike. Although I haven't seen the box score, I bet Cynthia McKinney had the most hits!

Spitballs!!!

Leave it to the Dems to get hits and leave so many men on base.

No need to check the polls before you swing....

I'd say we'll get 'em next year, but you need to get 'em in November!

Wow. Impressive. And they did it without need for a constitutional amendment. Was that an ELECTRONIC scoreboard I saw in the photo?....

Sorta hard for the Dems to win when everyone on their team plays Left Field. Deep Left Field.
