Well, after running around at the DNC for a week. I thought yesterday would be a relaxing sleep-in, eat, drink and rest day. But after McCain picked Sarah Palin as his running mate, I found myself sitting in my nasty Denver hotel room all day glued to the TV trying to make some sense of what it all meant.
My first reaction was that McCain had made the purely political pick of a woman to attract disenfranchised Hillary voters and middle-of-the-road soccer moms (er...hockey moms) rather than looking for the most qualified candidate who could step in on Day One if, God forbid, something should happen to him.
It's wonderful that he picked a woman, but is Sarah Palin really the most qualified woman in the GOP universe for the job? I mean, honestly.
Does McCain really think that the millions of women who supported Hillary will vote for him becuase of Palin, regardless of the fact that she is basically the polar opposite of Hillary on the issues that most democratic women supported Hillary for in the first place?
I just ran into a woman buying a paper at the Denver airport who was standing there just shaking her head as she looked at the Palin headlines in the paper. "This is an insult!,"she said. "He must think woman are so stupid"...OUCH!
More from the Twin Cities.

It's sad how pre-disposed and judgmental people can be about a potential candidate, when they know ABSOLUTELY nothing about that candidate.
Has the American voter become so LAZY that they require an instant 4 page mental resume and immediate name recognition in order to deem a candidate "appropriate" or qualified?
Have the American voters become so insecure with the leadership capabilities of their neighbors that they require a pre-packaged, custom molded, road hard and put up wet, 4 year warranty type of candidate to attract their attention?
Have we discarded the basic tenet of Americana that tells children and immigrants that ANYONE can grow up to be President?
Or do we need to modify that tenet and add "as long as they put in their 32 years of education and earn their Piled High and Deep at the University of Political Entrenchment"?
Whatever happened to the concept of a breath of fresh air in this country?
Or do we need to extend EPA regulations to the Political Stratosphere?
Oh, but wait, we are talking about the exalted VP position you say.
I say, EXACTLY for the VP position.
Except for two constitutionally mandated responsibilities, the powers of the VP are non-existent, however it would be damn nice to know that there is at least ONE PERSON inside or on the fringe of the Oval Office that is still in touch with people outside the fence.
Oh, but what if something HAPPENED to the standing President and this Sarah Palin had to take over?
SO WHAT? GOOD.... She's made it this far....every other executive job she held has been a success story. Why should this be any different?
Cuz, after all, let's remember, of the 4 people presented by the Dem's and Repub's for 2008....
NO ONE has ANY previous experience as President of The United States..
Sarah Palin goes into this election with the exact same resume as the other three in that regard.
And let's remember, the 1st President of this country had never been elected to an office in his life when he was voted in.
And he was elected at a very dangerous time during this country's formation. We could have very easily fallen into anarchy.
And this "inexperienced politician" did a pretty good job.
The fact that she goes to DC with very little luggage and has yet to be RUINED by the system is a HUGE plus in my book.
Send Mrs. Smith to Washington.
Just my opinion.
