Subject: Letter from my friend's son in Iraq.................

Hello everyone, I just wanted to pass along that Senator Obama came to Bagram Afghanistan for about an hour on his visit to 'The War Zone'. I wanted to share with you what happened.
He got off the plane and got into a bullet proof vehicle, got to the area to meet with the Major General (2 Star) who is the commander here at Bagram.

As the Soldiers where lined up to shake his hand he blew them off and didn't say a word as he went into the conference room to meet the General. As he finished, the vehicles took him to the ClamShell (pretty much a big top tent that military personnel can play basketball or work out in with weights) so he could take his publicity pictures playing basketball. He again shunned the opportunity to talk to Soldiers to thank them for their service.

So really he was just here to make a showing for the American's back home that he is their candidate for President. I think that if you are going to make an effort to come all the way over here you would thank those that are providing the freedom that they are providing for you.

I swear we got more thanks from the NBA Basketball Players or the Dallas Cowboy Cheer leaders than from one of the Senators, who wants to be the President of the United States. I just don't understand how anyone would want him to be our Commander-and-Chief. It was almost that he was scared to be around those that provide the freedom for him and our great country.

If this is blunt and to the point I am sorry but I wanted you all to know what kind of caliber of person he really is. What you see in the news is all fake.

In service,
CPT Jeffrey S. Porter
Battle Captain
TF Wasatch
American Soldier

Great work Walt!

To Bob Herrmann: While CPT Porter is certainly entitled to his opinion - he has since recanted the substance of this letter - there are a substantial number of servicemen whose documented experiences with Sen. Obama in Afghanistan were quite positive.(see: www.snopes.com/politics/obama/afghanistan.asp) A nominal amount of fact-checking is required before posting such emails. You don't have to prefer or like Obama to be RESPONSIBLE before posting something like this. (I'm personally still trying to decide what to make of the man) Otherwise, you fail to be a participant in a dialogue where we can all learn something and instead transmit lies and negativity.

BTW - Are you REALLY a "friend" of CPT Porter's father or mother or is this another lie? In the interest of full disclosure you should acknowledge whether this email was validly transmitted to you or whether you received a forwarded message whose origins are completely unknown to you.

For Cpt Porter and others who have forwarded that e-mail, I would advise that you to check out Snopes.com, and learn that the story cited is totally false. It appears that the Republicans and their erstwhile supporters have no better campaign plan than to utilize character assassination, as was the case in 2004. this time, the economic situation that the Bush administration has brought the American people will be the determining factor in who wins in November. Of course, you can still vote for McBush and same old, same old.

Why is it that the liberals spend most of their time on these bulletin boards name calling like they're still in Kindergarten? I know some Republicans do as well but more often than not I see it done by the Democrats. Can't we get on here and discuss things civilly?

Larry McC...I really think you sound like one of the few intelligent people I've seen discussing things on this board. I, like you, am still not sure what I'm going to do in regards to voting in Nov. I don't like much of what I know of Obama, and yet on the other hand, I don't know enough about McCain (other than what the left wing media writes) to make knowledgeable judgments. I thought about a write in (How about Bill Cosby or Colin Powell?), but then that would be like a vote for Obama so for now I just keep trying to read as much as I can and to SNOPES it when I'm unsure as to the validity.

Great cartoons, Walt.

I received one(the Baby Boomers) via email from a friend and really enjoyed it!!!

Sooo I have been sending them to others, family and friends, to enjoy also.

Keep up the good work!!!

In this day and age we all really need something to laugh at.

I m not sure about either of the candidates that are running, but what I really want is a change from what we are going through of late. If Obama can turn some of this chaos around then I think we as Americans should give him a chance. After all, we gave Bush Jr. a try out, didn't we?? Can it really get any worse for us??

Marlene

Ya! Cute. I will be glad when the campaign is over!

Walt, I would like to tell you how much I like your humor this election year. I especially like the Palin satire. I first pictured her chasing Obama as a cat and Palin as a pit bull with lipstick. I feel certain you have probably thought of that same image. To tell you what a genius you are would be an understatement. I look forward to seeing more of your humor in the coming months. Until then, I hope you and your family has a great week. Chip Hosek
