Judith Wilansky has been appointed superintendent of the Cold Spring Harbor School District. She replaces Whitney K. Vantine, who took the position of superintendent in the Tonawanda City School District upstate.
Wilansky, who joined the district as director of special education and pupil services in 2000, also has served as the district’s director of special education and personnel, assistant superintendent for instructional services and personnel, and deputy superintendent. Before joining Cold Spring Harbor, she held positions in the East Williston and Hewlett-Woodmere school districts.
“Cold Spring Harbor has a unique advantage in that we’re small enough to individualize instruction,” Wilansky said in a statement. “Schools cannot be built for one type of learner alone. There has to be a strong appreciation for the diversity of learners.”
She also said, “We need to constantly re-examine our curriculum to address learning needs for the future.”
