Dean Skelos is re-elected to head the Republican Senate conference, and puts out a statement.

Notice the last line -- the same Republican conference that hasn't proposed a single spending cut to deal with the fiscal crisis is still "focused on..... controlling spending." Actually, they seem more focused on trying to criticize and exploit Paterson's efforts to control spending:

"I am very pleased and gratified that my colleagues in the Senate Republican Conference have again selected me to serve as their leader. While there is difficult work ahead, I appreciate the confidence they have placed in me and look forward to continuing to lead our conference forward. We will remain focused on issues that are important to New Yorkers and their families, including controlling spending, reducing property taxes and creating jobs."
