Palin: Bragging on something that didn't work (Updated)

Remember Palin's line in her speech last night about putting a plane used by predecessor Ed Murkowski up for sale on eBay?

It sounded homespun and plucky and small-town common sense-ish, which is the role she has decided to occupy.

Except, it turns out it didn't work. The plane sat on eBay with no takers at an asking price of $2.5 million. Finally, the state did what normal, less plucky people would do -- they placed it with an airplane broker, who managed to sell it for $2.1 million.

Apparently, when you're a hot item like Sarah Palin, you get to brag about your dumb ideas and everyone thinks you're great.

That Sarah! eBay! What spunk!

Update: We've gotten some interesting negative reaction to this item. In addition to the comments, which you can read, another correspondent argues that eBay is a way of testing market value. It cost nothing, and assured the public that the ultimate price arranged through the broker was at least in the ballpark. So, in that sense, the correspondent argues, the idea did work in a way and wasn't dumb -- but the item was.

Isn't the real story that she got rid of the plane and the waste. Look at all of your lefty Hollywood friends, private jets with no care for the environment.

Doug, Lets face it, Riley has absolutl zero credibility. All he does is post anti-GOp and Pro-Omamba staright from the Huff.

"Dumb idea" wow thats impartial Guess Rile thinks she should have kept it.

I mean they only got 2.1 for it........

Riley, get a real job. Serving a "news"paper shouldn't be your excuse for regurgitating Dem talking points. Is it that hard for you to understand the 4th Estate is supposed to be impartial? I can't believe Newsday hasn't reprimanded you for this disgusting abuse of a soapbox you write for.

Riley you would have served your own cause better if you called the "listing on E-bay" what it was.....a grandstanding publicity stunt by the Governor.
Those of us with more than half a brain, and a filter for exaggeration, who don't HAVE AN AGENDA TO FULFILL, all kinda got that message out here in the hinterlands during her speech last night.
She didn't say she SOLD it on E-bay. Just that she "put it" on E-bay.

By calling it a "dumb idea" , I think you kinda dumbed yourself down right there, again.

How much wriggle room you got left before you hit bottom?

Your correspondent is wrong. It does cost something to make a listing on e-bay. You either list it or you don't and they don't let you do it for free.

I does cost like 3 to 5% of your minimum asking bid to list an item (insertion fee they call it) on Ebay. So that a lot more money she lost on that idea.

As an aviation professional, I can attest that ebay is not among the sources used in the industry for the sale/purchase of multi-million dollar aircraft.
