College hails Caesar, the state Senator, unabashedly

With the state Senate seat of Caesar Trunzo (R-Brentwood) targeted as a high priority by the state Democratic organization this election year, the member items Trunzo provided to the district over the years as part of the GOP majority undoubtedly have some heft. In a press release issued last week, the Patchogue-based St. Joseph's College gives the veteran senator a public cheer for securing a $250,000 economic-development grant for the college, for purchase and installation of field lighting for a new athletic center on its campus.
In case you guessed college officials would be shy about doling out the political praise, guess again. The statement proclaims: "As one of the longest serving members of the New York State Senate, Senator Trunzo has provided strong leadership to his constituents and New York State... Senator Trunzo has been a dedicated supporter of St. Joseph’s College, securing more than $700,000 in funding from New York State for a wide range of projects ...." State Senator Caesar Trunzo Secures Capital Funds for Field Lighting of New Athletic Center
PATCHOGUE, NY - AUGUST 7, 2008 - St. Joseph’s College is pleased to announce that State Senator Caesar Trunzo (R-Suffolk) has secured a $250,000 New York State Economic Development Assistance Program (NYS EDAP) Grant for the College. Future expansion plans for the new property include developing a state-of-the-art Athletic Complex that will support a wide array of intercollegiate athletic programs as well as various athletic fields. The additions will also include an illuminated 400-meter all-weather running track and associated field with a synthetic-turf multipurpose infield; a 1,500-seat bleacher; press box; scoreboard; illuminated baseball and softball fields; illuminated tennis courts; and a facilities building housing restrooms, concession area, storage and training and locker room space. How can he secure funding for a private sectarian college with public tax money ?
This is no great fete. It is pure pork. It doesn't take much to put a name on a list with a dollar sign next to it. Granted, Trunzo was pretty good at this, but check his record over the many years and you will see very few legislative accomplishments. Once a back bencher..always a back bencher. The district deserves new leadership in the Senate.
Islip Voter, it's obvious you are a Democratic party hack because that's just what Foley is. I don't think he's done such a great job in Brookhaven and because of that the GOP has regained control. He now knows that it's only a matter of time before he gets ousted there, so he's running against Trunzo. But, having a Democrat controlled Senate is of little help to LI because NYC Democrats will control the balance of power in the body and their agenda isn't in the best interests of taxpayers here. Trunzo has lost more than a few steps, but his office is still excellent at serving district residents and he still gets a good chuck of pork to share. He is a reliable GOP vote and that's what's needed. He should give his town chairman's hat and concentrate on his re-election. He is needed in Albany.
