Skelos home after eye surgery

Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos (R-Rockville Centre) is at home recovering from successful cataract surgery on his left eye.

Skelos will have the same procedure performed on his right eye in the future, aides said.

Today’s surgery was performed by Dr. Stanley Berke of Lynbrook and was administered in Carle Place. At no time during the operation was Skelos sedated, and with Governor David A. Paterson in Washington, D.C., the senator served as acting governor.

Paterson, who is legally blind, had a cataract removed in June.

Skelos was expected to resume his full work schedule tomorrow.
