Obama: To sponsor a NASCAR car?

From Sports Illustrated:

"SI.com has learned that for the first time in history, a major presidential candidate may sponsor a race car in NASCAR's premier series. According to sources, Barack Obama's campaign is in talks to become the primary sponsor of BAM Racing's No. 49 Sprint Cup car for the Pocono race on August 3. Details of the agreement are expected to be worked out over the coming days."

Is this a great idea, a bid for the NASCAR demographic that ought to belong to McCain? Or is it kind of in the category of a pre-presidential seal, accepting in a football stadium, and speaking at the Brandenburg Gate? Is there such a thing as being too nouveau and too out-of-the-box when you're running to be leader of the free world?

John,

How is that analysis of how many time Tom Suozzi's name has appeared in Newsday in the last year?

Do you need help?

Remind me of what I would learn?????

Oh yeah, about a month ago, your blog said that they had mentioned Kemp Hannon's name several times, showing that Newsday gave equal billing to the GOP as to the Dem's.

However, several posters have been asking, in light of Newsday's own chest thumping, to list how many times Newsday has mentioned.

Kemp Hannon
Kate Murray
Tom Suozzi
Howard Weitzman

All in the last year.

What should you learn, depends on the results. Perhaps some of us will learn more than we know. Can't hurt to show the results.

Here is the story John

In a New York Times story earlier this week about yet another owner for Newsday, state Senator Dean Skelos (R-Rockville Centre) was quoted saying: "There’s no question that Newsday dominates... To get a story out, you need to get it in Newsday,” and that has become harder with the newspaper’s cutbacks, he said.

According to the Times, Skelos is one of the many powerful people and ordinary readers who have been frustrated by the absence of an alternative voice in Long Island affairs. The frustration has been most acute for conservatives, the paper reports.

Actually, Skelos' name has appeared 182 times in Newsday in the past year -- and in a neighboring district, Sen. Kemp Hannon (R-Garden City) has appeared 71 times.

I ran it in nexis:

thomas w/2 suozzi 555
kemp w/2 hannon 75
kate w/2 murray 96
howard w/2 weitzman 115

That's the data. I'm not sure what you're trying to show, and I'm not sure those numbers show anything particularly curious. But it wasn't my item. If you want to pursue it, why don't you e-mail joie tyrrell? or, email me.

JR

How come you have never answered MY question about how much money the former Albany bureau chief was paid by newsday before he went to work for Spizer after the election.

What's the hang up, are you scared of the truth. ?

That the "Fourth Estate" is just as slime as the "Jack "The Rat" Abramoff" and his ILK.

So JR what's the "FACTS" tell US what was his salary at Newsday

Come clean and stop complaining about other people not getting their facts straight.

ps maybe we need an "FOIL" law for the "Forth Estate" so members of the public can get info like salaries of reporters who go to work for the people they cover. How truthful was his reporting of the election for Newsday's readers ????

How back to the blog at hand.

First Obama had the "SEAL" now he has a "NASCAR TANK" it just keeps on getting "BITTER" every time.

I wonder what they dream up next. ??

The night of the fight, you may feel a slight sting. That's pride f*cking with you. F*ck pride. Pride only hurts, it never helps.
