McCain, as noted below, was raising money from the Hamptons GOP glitterati yesterday -- first visiting billionaire Ron Perelman at his estate, than showing up at a $2300 cocktail reception at the estate of developer William Mack that was organized by the likes of Al D'Amato, Georgette Mosbacher, Henry Kissinger.
NYTimes had the pool. Account is here:
"Mr. McCain spoke from the back porch of the house, using a lectern. The themes and jokes were the ones we are accustomed to, and he did not directly address the al-Maliki interview with Der Spiegel, although Iraq and Iran did come up during the question and answer session.
"As his opponent Senator Barack Obama landed in Afghanistan, Mr. McCain talked about Iraq and repeated lines he has been using lately: 'We will come home. Our troops will come home, but they will come home with honor and victory and not in defeat. Senator Obama opposed the surge, and said it wouldn’t work, and continued to say it wouldn’t work and refuses to acknowledge today.' "
