As we noted last night, footage of McCain's interview with Katie Couric indicated that he responded to a question about the surge by mistakenly asserting that the surge occurred before the Sunni Awakening in Anbar Province. In fact, it occurred afterwards.
Now, some (like Keith Olbermann) are up in arms because it turns out that on the CBS Evening News, the network ran Couric's question -- but edited out McCain's mistake, running different comments -- his assertion that Obama "would rather lose a war than lose a campaign" -- as if they were a response to her question.
Given the fact that CBS posted the entire interview, it doesn't seem they were trying to protect McCain. But it's a curious choice, to take out a mistake by McCain and substitute a red-meat attack on Obama, and an interesting illustration of how editing decisions can airbrush away glitches:
