Most NY Reps to skip Hillary sendoff

Sorry Hillary, they’ve got other plans.

The vast majority of Hillary Rodham Clinton’s congressional supporters in New York will be skipping her Saturday drop-out announcement in Washington – citing reasons ranging from town halls back in their districts to campaign obligations to the observation of the Jewish sabbath.

"It’s shabbos, we're not going to be here!" said Queens Rep. Gary Ackerman (left), who baked under the sun during an outdoor Capitol Hill press conference today whose purpose was to give 19 pro-Clinton, no-shows a chance to pay their respects.

Ackerman is Jewish but delegation dean Charles Rangel, who isn’t, added: "It's a Jewish holiday -- enough said."

Ackerman later elaborated: "She scheduled this event late yesterday – we all have complicated schedules and obligations back in our districts to meet with our constituents."

Many delegation members, who planned to leave Washington for New York today, were miffed that Clinton didn’t make her announcement sooner to accommodate their schedules, a person familiar with the situation said.

Three African-American representatives – Yvette Clarke and Ed Towns for Brooklyn and Gregory Meeks from Queens – privately informed Clinton they had endorsed Obama early yesterday. Clinton staffers have cited skepticism from some New York reps as the reason Clinton backed out when she did.

In an unusual move, about 20 of them gathered at party headquarters to announce they were supportive of Clinton’s decision to drop out of the race – without officially backing Obama.

In what may be the longest negative RSVP in recent memory, Rangel announced: "Because we are not going to be in session, because of the difficulty in arranging our legislative and political schedules… we thought it would be in the best interests of showing the unequivocal support of what she’s doing… [by] going to our congressional districts this weekend and working hard for the endorsement of the Democratic nominee of these great United States of America."

Rangel was referring to Obama -- whom he won't formally endorse until Clinton bows out.

Eight other reps, most notably Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-Queens/Brooklyn), were no-shows at the no-show presser and plan to attend.

well, she pretty much snubbed Obama by letting him hear about her plans to suspend her campaing via the media - so she deserves to be snubbed. Tit for Tat.

There's not a snowball's chance in hell that she will be VP. Thank God. As Jack Cafferty on CNN just said, she's leaving the race with the same air of entitlement with which she entered.

'look, there's a lot of pressure on the campaign trail and if you can't take the heat in a primary then you can't take the pressures of being President. Like my momma said, if you can't take the heat then get out the kitchen! You need to be able to take heat and make quick decisions...."

Crazy as ever and lovin' it!

Wow. Can people be any less charitable? I'm not a big Hillary Clinton fan (and supported Obama), but the rudeness of these posts is tacky. And I think it's a bit sad they are skipping the send off. Seems like she may have realized they would be busy or would prefer not to show up. Maybe it was a token get together on her part as well. Who knows, who cares? But all day long I was put off by the snottiness and unpleasant tone of Obama supporters. Lucky for us, Sen. Obama has more class and self-restraint than many of his supporters.

Hopefully this will motivate New Yorkers to push for a special election, if it is possible, and get this woman out of politics forever. Bill and Hillary's days of bullying the Democratic party are hopefully over. They have treated too many people like rungs on their ladder up, and hopefully this will be the last days of Clintondom.

I think it is disgusting that Clinton is throwing a big bash when she cannot even pay her vendors and will need Obama's help to pay off her debt.

What is she throwing a big party for? The woman is delusional and probably still thinks that "anything can happen" between now and Saturday and she can turn Saturday into a celebratory party. She is not leaving this until she is dragged off in a strait jacket and put into an institution.

I was a Clinton supporter and donated to her campaign, but she lost me with her 3 a.m. ad, her mock outrage over NAFTA. Her Tuesday performance, and it was a performance, was so below the norms of any decent behavior, I seriously wondered about her mental health.

Her husband is completely nuts, but that has been the case for years now.

I DON'T FEEL BAD ABOUT THE NEGATIVE COMMENT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT HILLARY, AFTER ALL CALL A SPADE A SPADE. I LOST ALL RESPECT FOR HER WHEN SHE LIED ABOUT THE SHOOT OUT AND ALL SHE COULD SAY IS "PEOPLE MAKE MISTAKES". SHE CERTAINLY GET WHAT SHE DESERVES. I WOULD SKIP IT TO. SEE YA WHEN I SEE YA!

who the heck did she promise her soul to that she has to be back in the white house or in power at all....

Poor Rangel he is worried about a primary from a Obama supporter. Plus he will not be in "FRIST CLASS? on the Obama Express,, he will be in the 'BAGGAGE CAR". But a primary is a very real likely.

I believe thats how he "WON" many years ago when he was a "YOUNG TURK", now he is an 'ELDER LEADER" WHO BACKED THE WRONG HORSE. SO HE IS LOOKING OVER HIS SHOULDER AND SEEING THOSE 'NEW YOUNG TURKS"
