McCain: Still Not The One
In an item yesterday, we noted McCain's problems with musicians (Chuck Berry, Abba, John Cougar Mellencamp) who don't like him as much as he likes their songs. The trend continues:
First Read reports that, at a rally in NH yesterday, McCain played "Still the One" to celebrate the Granite State's support of him in elections past. "Still the One" was made famous by Orleans. Orleans member John Hall is now a Dem congressman from upstate NY. He complained in 2004 when Bush tried to use the song, and he's complaining again:
"This is yet another example of John McCain not learning anything from George Bush's mistakes. First, McCain adopted Bush's failed policy of an open-ended war in Iraq, then he wrapped his arms around the failed Bush economic policies that have put the squeeze on middle class families. Now, he's making the same mistake George Bush made illegally using a copyrighted song without asking either the writers or the performers for permission."
Notice that this quote conflates Iraq, a bloody war, with the use of a catchy little ditty. Maybe Rep. Hall needs to lighten up a little bit, instead of hyperventilating over something that doesn't really matter that much?
