B'khaven: Foley dep returns to Rep. Bishop shop

After only four months on the job, Brookhaven Supervisor Brian Foley’s $112,000-a-year deputy, Jon Schneider, is exiting to rejoin Rep. Timothy Bishop (D-Southampton).

Schneider, who departs at month’s end, described his resignation as a “personal decision,” based both on his need for more time at home with his 8-month old daughter and realizing that he likes dealing with federal issues, though the town post gave him a “new appreciation” of town needs.

Schneider will make $84,000 a year in returning to Bishop. The leading contender to replace him in Brookhaven is James LaCarruba, who had been parks commissioner and now is assistant to the supervisor, party sources say.

The aide’s departure comes only weeks after Foley announced plans to run for State Senate against 36-year incumbent Caesar Trunzo, 82. Jesse Garcia, Brookhaven GOP leader, said, “It sounds like all the rats are jumping off the sinking ship. We’d only ask the last Democrat to turn out the lights.”

“Mr. Garcia has never spoken to me, never met me and and doesn’t understand what motivates me,” said Schneider.

Rather than jumoing off a sinking ship, it sounds to me like they are leaving a winning ship. When Feley becomes a freshman Senator, he will have less money for staff than the chief executive of a large town. It makes perfect sense for Schneider to leave.

Your missing the point there Yoda, whether Foley wins the seat or not would not directly put him out of a job. In fact in his position he is the Deputy Supervisor of the Town which makes him the number two Dem in the TOWN, unless your indicating that a Foley win means they lose the town to the GOP in a special election his job security there is not at all effected. Plus he was Foley's number 2 man and would have no trouble at all getting a job in Foley's Senate office if that's what he wanted considering his prominence on Brians staff currently.

So in essence Yoda everything you said is quite laughable.

Plus something tells me Senate in Albany is way too much work for Brian to handle. At least in Brookhaven he had a huge staff and at least in the Leg all he had to do was go to Riverhead or Hauppage.
