Paul Francis, one of Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s key lieutenants who was never linked to Choppergate, announced today that he’s leaving state government.
Francis, a former top executive at Merrill Lynch and Ann Taylor Stores, had served as budget director and government operations director under Spitzer. He agreed to stay on during the transition to Gov. David A. Paterson. Francis was very involved in settling horse racing issues in the Capitol.
"Governor Paterson is off to a great start and I’m confident he will prove to be one of New York’s great governors," Francis said.
