Obama gets the day's first superdelegate endorsement -- Paul Kirk of Massachusetts, who headed the Democratic National Committee from 1985 to 1989.
His statement brings up the gas tax: “Throughout his life and public career, has fought the tough fights to advance the quality of life of the working families of Illinois, not with election year gimmicks like the gas tax holiday espoused by others, but by hard headed, common sense solutions, and that’s what he will do as President of the United States."
But Obama's campaign cautions that Kirk's sympathies were previously disclosed (he's an ex-Kennedy guy), and he may have been counted already in some media superdelegate counts. And, Hillary counters with an endorsement from the Indianapolis Star, Indiana's biggest newspaper:
"As impressive as Obama appears, he is still in his first term in the U.S. Senate, and only four years ago was serving as an Illinois state senator. His inexperience in high office is a liability.
"Clinton, in contrast, is well prepared for the rigors of the White House. She is tough, experienced and realistic about what can and cannot be accomplished on the world stage."
