Clinton, campaigning in Kentucky, sounds more and more like she's functioning in a parallel universe.
She said she has won based on the popular vote, if you count Michigan and Florida, which haven't counted since last year. She said she has won based on the winner-take-all Republican primary rules, which don't count because it's a Democratic primary. And, in a new twist, she says she's won in the Electoral College:
“The states that I’ve won total 300 electoral votes. The question is who can win 270 electoral votes? My opponent has won states totaling 217 electoral votes.” Except that the Electoral College only counts after you win the nomination.
Tomorrow, Obama is expected to win enough delegates to clinch an absolute majority in pledged delegates currently certified. A number of superdelegates have said they will support whoever gets a majority of pledged delegates. So he's expected to bring in another haul of superdelegates, too.
Now, however, his success and her apparent erosion have become fuel for Clinton. The worse things get, the more people say they're worse, the more resentment she can stir up. She has an ad up in Oregon attacking the pundits for saying that she 's in trouble. A new campaign memo attacks Obama based on a ten-day-old quote on a political website from an anonymous advisor saying that he's ready to declare victory.
Obama says he's not planning to. But why let the fact that it isn't happening, and that every big Democrat in the country is treating Hillary like a fragile eggshell who'll crack if she isn't constantly flattered, get in the way of fake outrage? What isn't happening is a "slap in the face to the millions of voters in the remaining primary states and to Senator Clinton’s 17 million supporters," says the memo from Howard Wolfson.
Hillary says: "This is nowhere near over."
Reality check: It depends on the definition of "near." Even if she pulls off a political miracle, it's closer to the end than the beginning, isn't it?
The Onion, which does political satire well, has on idea of where this is going:

""We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK," Obama said."
Candidate Barach Hussein Obama
Oregon Speech
May 19, 2008
This is unbelieveable! So the politics of Hope, the politics of Change and "Yes We Can" is really all about turning this entire nation into a country with 3rd world status.
I'm switching back to Hillary Clinton and the Super Delegates should do so also. Obama ideas that we need to give up driving our cars, sit in our homes in the dark wearing long johns and sweaters in the winter with ourheat turned off, sweating through hot summers without our air conditioning and above all changing our our eating habits to consume less of the food this nation produces to make the rest of the world happy is absolutely ludicrous.
Thank God he exposd himself today before the Kentucky and Oregon primaries. This guy is out to destroy this nation, the American Dream and is not offering the American people Hope but rather Hopelessness and inferiority.
What Obama did not say today was that 25 years ago Americans were using 18 billion barrells of oil per day. Well guess what today Americans are using 18 billion barrells of oil a day with a larger poulation than 25 years ago. Americans have spent billions on energy efficient appliances, insulating their homes, installing energy efficient windows and doors. Americans have bought automobniles that get double the mpg that autos got 25 years ago. The American people have done more than any other nation on this planet to conserve energy consumption. Now this man stands on a podium in Oregon and tells us we must sacrifice our way of life to allow full equality with the other nations of the world?
Sorry but if this nation is using the same amount of oil today that we used 25 years ago then Americans have increased energy efficieny 100%. Let the rest of the world make sacrifices to catch up rather than the this nation get pushed downward to let them off the hook.
That is not HOPE and CHANGE THAT IS TOTAL SURRENDER TO MAKE PEOPLE LIVING UNDER CORRUPT GOVERNMENTS AND DICTATORSHIPS HAPPY THAT AMERICANS WILL BE FORCED TO LIVE AS THEY DO.
OBAMA IS PREACHING THE "GHETTOIZATION" OF THE ENTIRE COUNTRY. HE IS ADVOCATING OUR SURRNDER OF THIS NATION'S WAY OF LIFE.
I supported this man. We sent his campaign not one but two contributions. Well when I am wrong I say I was wrong. And I was very wrong. No-O in 2OO8!
What needs to be done now!
It does not appear that the Florida and Michigan delegates can be seated as per the votes taken in their states. I understand that those states violated the rules and it is much to late to hol;d second primaries there.
But this can be done. IT IS TIME FOR OBAMA AND CLINTON TO GO HAD TO HEAD, FACE TO FACE IN TWO 3 HOUR LINCOLN/DOUGLAS TYPE DEBATES BEFORE THE SUPER DELEGATES FINALLY MAKE UP THERIR MINDS.
The places for these two debates to be held are Florida and Michigan. Both these states are not reeling under a recession both a being devastated by a depression.
Now that Obama has advised us today that he intends to lower Americans standard of living and completely change our way of life with this insane idea we should stop driving our automobiles, stop eating our own domesticly produced food, freeze in the winters and swelter in the summers WE NEED A FACE TO FACE SHOWDOWN DEBATE where Clinton discusses her plan as well as she gives America and the Super Delegates her perspective if America's day has passed and 3rd world status is our destiny as Obama started preaching today in Oregon. 45 states have already votd and now suddenly we discover the politics of HOPE and CHANGE is rEally the politics of sacrifice and surrender?
Apparently Obama has misled tthisnation throughout this campaign. He has no hope, no change and no Yes We can plans. his plan is the ecconomic dumbing down of the United states of America.
After his speech today the Super Delegates should be terrified of just simply handing this man the nomination becasue after today he is a "Losing Candidate!"
So no re-vote in Florida and Michigan but let these two candidtaes go to Michigan and Florida and go toe to toe with each other in two 3 hour debates. No moderators just Hillary and Barack on a stage in a good old Lincoln/Douglas type debate.
Then the super Delegates should decide the outcome. They are not locked in. If I can admit I have made a mistake America will have no problem if already announced Super Delegates advise they have made a mistake because they had not really been given Obama's real plan of total sacrifice and destruction of America's way of life as his idea of Hope and Change until his Oregon speech yeaterday.
Now if Obama refuses this idea of two final mano et mano debates and cannot or will not defend his comments in Oregon then I implore John McCain to offer Hillary Clinton the Vice Presidency in a fusion ticket and let the two of them get to work making America stronger not weaker as Obama is suggesting. I implore Hillary Clinton to accept John McCain's invitation if offered and unite this nation behind a true non partisin administration.
