From this morning's NYT/CBS poll:
By 51-44, voters call the gas tax holiday a "bad idea." And by 70-21, voters think candidates proposing the holiday are doing it mainly because it would help them politically, rather than because they believe it's a bad idea.
Is this good news for Obama? Probably not. If 44 percent think it's a good idea, any advantage is limited from being on the "right" side of 51 percent. Also: Those are national numbers, and Hillary has been taking a beating in national press -- but in Indiana and NC where her ads have been flying, the numbers may be quite different.
Is it proof that the media has "succeeded" in making the public well-informed on this issue?
Well, that glass seems half empty, too.The Clintons say it's a good idea. Economists, energy experts, ed boards all say it's a bad idea. And 44 percent of voters side with the Clintons.
