Q: So how, exactly, does New York's first legally blind governor sign legislation?
A: Very carefully.
Today Gov. David A. Paterson presided over his first public bill signing since taking office, the so-called E-STOP law to deter convicted sex offenders from prowling social networking sites used by kids. He asked for a member of the press corps to take a look at what he was about to sign, "because I can't really read it."
Paterson was just joshing, as usual, and went on to review each page himself, bending so close that his nose touched the pages.
That didn't deter Assembly Minority Leader James Tedisco (R-Schenectady) from offering some aid of his own.
"Made out to the Republican Assembly Campaign Committee," he read.
No pictures have crossed yet of the historic nose-to-bill moment, but we'll post as soon as we see one.
