Sen. John Bonacic (R-Mount Hope), can be a loose cannon. In December 2006 he called on his majority leader, Sen. Joseph Bruno (R-Brunswick), to step down while under a federal investigation.
And last week, Bonacic said in a flier: “For too long, a disproportionate share of education aid was being driven to Long Island and the City of New York at our expense.” By whom? Eight of his GOP colleagues represent Nassau and Suffolk.
Called by Newsday on Friday, Bonacic conveyed a different message. In a statement he cited each Long Island Senate Republican by name and said: “In terms of fighting for their districts, they do an outstanding job. I am fighting just as hard for my schools and communities as they do for theirs.” Nice wiggle.
