Kristine Hamann, the state Inspector General who was criticize for a distinct lack of interest in investigating the governor who appointed her when Troopergate broke, is now out. She has, unsurprisingly, quit to allow new Gov. David Paterson to name his own in-house monitor.
An acclaimed lawyer, she unknowingly walked into the minefield later named Choppergate. She said she was investigating in conjunction with Attorney General Andrew Cuomo’s office but did not produce a separate report, which became fodder for flak from angry legislative Republicans.
In the executive chamber, she reported to Spitzer’s secretary, Rich Baum, who has also left.
There’s a lot of hallway debate here about whether she’s departed due to Choppergate or her office’s long-delayed report on Steve Mitnick, the Spitzer energy adviser who quit after throwing his weight around at the Public Service Commission.
Either way, it was wrong-place, wrong-time for anyone in that job.

She needs to have this saying framed and put up on her next office wall.
NOTHING IS EVER SETTLED UNTIL IT IS SETTLED RIGHT.
