Another one of the Troopergate facilitators is gone.
Former Spitzer homeland security aide Bill Howard -- who passed along orders to the state police to compile and, allegedly, recreate records on Joe Bruno's travel -- has quit. A report from AG Andrew Cuomo suggested he lied multiple times, but Howard was merely demoted instead of being fired.
Also, Acting State Police Supt. Preston Felton has been replaced by Gov. Paterson. Spitzer press aide Darren Dopp left a long time ago, and other aides who had some piece of Troopergate -- secretary Richard Baum, counsel David Nocenti and policy advisor Peter Pope also left or are leaving.
One whose fate is unclear: Former AG candidate Sean Patrick Maloney. He was one of the Spitzer aides involved in advising Dopp to put together a statement for Cuomo that didn't, in the end, exactly disclose the whole truth. But, so far, no word on whether Maloney is leaving or has found a place with Gov. Paterson.
Separately, but only slightly: Assemb. Tom Kirwan, a former State Police lieutenant, is calling for the resignation of state Inspector Gen. Kristine Hamann, because of her lackluster performance on Troopergate; and Power Authority IG Dan Wiese, a former statie and head of the Pataki security detail who seems to be suspected of having his hands dirty in Troopergate and some other political scandals.
