Charles Gibson asks about Bittergate. Obama gives his standard answer -- he mangled his words, he didn't mean to offend.
Hillary goes at it semi-tough, referencing her Pennsylvania-born grandfather and father:
"I don't believe my grandfather or my father... just cling to religion when Washington is not listening. I think that is a fundamental misunderstanding of religion and faith.... I just don't believe that's the way people live their lives." Also: "I can understand people would be taken aback."
Obama returns to the subject, recalling Hillary's comments in the 1992 campaign about not being the kind of person who stays home and bakes cookies, and how the comment was taken out of context:
"People attacked her for being elitist. I remember watching on TV and saying that's not right, that's not who she is.....I think Sen. Clinton learned the wrong lesson from that."
Cute how he slipped that in.
