This morning, Gov. Paterson appeared before the Greater NY Hospital Assn. -- a group Spitzer went to war with over health cuts -- and unlike his predecessor had only nice things to say. Then, afterwards, the Daily Politics caught him throwing a fascinating little jab.
He was asked about the group's habit of lavishing money on the Senate Republican majority, in return for which it gets protection on health spending. Paterson:
"I think that they make their own determinations as to where they make contributions and they can do it any way they like. But boy, it sure would be funny if they keep doing it and then there’s a change, and they come asking me about it, I’ll say, ‘That’s really not my problem.'"
There has been lots of speculation about whether Paterson will hew to a non-aggression pact with Bruno and the Senate GOP, or will help raise money for Senate Democrats to try to take control in November. Telling the GOP's bankrollers to maybe hedge their bets is an interesting alternative to accomplish the same goal.......
