In the course of the primary season, the Clinton campaign has been accused a few times of playing the "race card." Most notably, when Bill Clinton decided to reference Jesse Jackson as evidence that Obama's win in South Carolina wasn't surprising.
Then, on Monday, Bill said on a Philadelphia radio show that Obama had played the race card against him in the Jackson/SC controversy. He later denied saying it, even though it was on tape, but that is a different story.
Today, Gov. Paterson was on a Clinton conference call with other governors to discuss the immensity of Hillary's win in Pennsylvania, and (presumably because he is black) was asked about Bill's radio comment:
"I don't think that either of the candidates has played the race card in this campaign."
Very diplomatic.
