One-time Republican legislative candidate James Conklin is in hot water again.
Conklin, who ran two years ago against Legis. Jack Eddington, was suspended for a week and is currently on vacation from his $42,000-a-year post at the Suffolk Board of Elections in Yaphank.
Cathy Richter Geier, Republican elections commissioner, confirmed the suspension, but declined to disclose the reasons saying it was a “personnel matter.” County sources, however, that Conklin was missing too much time on the job.
In the past, Conklin, a Patchogue resident, had also run for Suffilk Legislature against then incumbent Brian Foley and was once on the GOP ticket for village board.
It is not the first time Conklin has had problems with political jobs. He was fired as a $42,000 a year meter reader from the Suffolk Water Authority in 1993 for insubordination. Before the board of election, Conklin worked in the Brookhaven assessor’s office until Jan. 1, 2006 when Democrats took control of town hall.

Gee ! Where is the big story here ? If Newsday was going to do a story on every person who ever ran for office but lost it would be rather boring. As for all the political operatives with do nothing jobs getting close to 6 figures a year and more, now that would be rather newsworthy.
